Hello to all other Grey Nomads.

We are about to start our next chapter/journey in ours life.  We have had a fairly bumpy journey in recent years so we have decided that life is too short to waste going to work for someone else.

We have travelled a fair bit of the world but because we can't travel overseas at the moment it is time to travel and see this Great Southern Land.  We have looked around and found a van that suits us perfectly and I am pleased to say we are now the proud owners of a 23' Bailey Unicorn Cartagena.

So, our first trip, yahoo, is a test run up to Hervey Bay and hopefully iron out some wrinkles in setting up and pulling down.  Plan to watch some whales while we're there, visit Bundy (I'm a rum lover so that is a no brainer) and historical Maryborough. All the best and we'll see you on the road somewhere.

A journey, fought with courage brings life to new adventures

I wish you both all the best.

I sold my house 2.5 years past and have been caravan nomad living in the bush since - I am happy and have no regrets :)

Go well.

Welcome to GN's Lenard,
I'm sure you will enjoy your initial trip to the best parts of Qld. It's a pity that the rest of us southerners can't get up there as well.
Make sure you arm yourself with Wikicamps app (less than $10.00 for lifetime use), as when you want to travel inland a bit it will be of great assistance in locating Camps. www.wikicamps.com.au/

Hope when road travelling becomes Covid free again, that there are many happy road trips, ahead of you both

Well, here we are, 2 small trips down and looking forward to our next one.
Our first journey to Hervey Bay started off bad when the park we were booked into called and cancelled our booking one day before we were to arrive. Something about covid or something stupid like that. Well after a lot of scrambling we managed to get accommodation in a park not far from the water. Not the greatest but adequate.
Had a fantastic time exploring the area and nearby locations. Watching the whales was another highlight.
Our second trip started at Dicky Beach at Caloundra, wow what a place. Our site had unimpeded views of the beach and ocean and we had a great time. But then we travelled to Kilkivan Family Bush Camp to have 3 days with our family who were camping there for a week. Hmmmm very dry, dusty and with very little to do. Decided that we need to pick places in interesting area which we can explore.
Next on our list is Cotton Tree Park at Maroochydore. Looking forward to some great times having fun in the sun.

Sounds amazing, whales are mesmerising to watch. Enjoy your journey on the road! Love the unicorn pic!

Well it's been some time since I wrote about our journeys so here a quick update.
We think we might have ironed out the major wrinkles in our caravanning life, but I'm sure not all of them. We've been to Noosa, Caloundra and Hervey Bay (close to home incase of disasters) to get things sorted and I just love the lifestyle.
Then we went to Stanthorpe during the Apple and Grape Festival, I must say that we loved Stanthorpe and it was awesome to experience the good old fashioned country parade down main street. Of cause there were several wineries visited and a big shout out to Castle Glen, Heritage and especially Ballandean and a special mention to the SLAPS café in the main street of Stanthorpe (yummy).
I must say that we are a little bit underwhelmed with the whole 'Happy Hour' every arvo thing people have been telling us about, mainly because it's just been some pleasant hellos and that's about it, no come on over and bring a glass or see you a 5. Maybe we are yet to find the right crowd. blahblah.gif
Anyway, the van went really well and it tows like a box trailer (easy) and the set up and pull down is now easy and quick so I suppose it's time to think of a longer journey and that might just be out to Winton next winter (this winter we're going overseas again) and if I can talk the bride into it we might continue on further.
Stay tuned for further adventures of 'The Unicorn'.

The general idea with Happy Hours in caravan parks is that you grab your chair & a drink then head on over to the communal area for a chat after introducing yourself.
If you're waiting for an invitation you might be waiting a while.
