Bought a pen as a gift the other day, there was a tag with a red cross reading made in Switzerland, nice, got it home while gift wrapping it pulled the tag our, the unseen fold over read Refill-----made in Switzerland, turned the box over, a tiny stuck on label read (you guessed it) made in China, dodgy buggers.

No more Snickers for me! I checked that out a couple of months ago.
However Mars bars are still made here - but for how long?

I rang them and took them to a severe task. Supposedly the Snickers line is on maintenance, and " all of our production lines the world over, are the same", but where do the ingredients come from?. Any way , I said " what do I do with this stuff, I am not eating it", oh," eventually," we will give you a gift card to buy other of our products, made in Aus.

Must follow that up.

My current whinge is fish. Fresh and tinned. Not having much luck though.

G'day chaps,
Another product that has made inroads to the Australian market is Basa - a native catfish of the Mekong & other close rivers. I know a lot of fish & chip shops sell it because it's cheap & plentiful. However recently I noticed there are health warnings on it.

I gave up eating it after seeing the state of fish farms on the Mekong from photos sourced by AIMS - when I was a tour guide there from 2010.

Is it any wonder why our produced food is being snapped up by the Asian countries?

Back to Snickers - I can get Aussie peanuts here & eat them with a Mars bar!

Many of our Australian caught prawns are processed in Thailand, have a close look at the labeling of the frozen prawns in your local supermarket.

Hi Santa,
We support the local industry - "farmed tiger prawns." It's a technology that was developed AIMS (Townsville) in conjunction with a local company.
To save an Australian industry from going under Coles (bless them in this case) set themselves to buy the local product.

On our last trip home from Toowoomba, we stayed in a caravan park at Cape Palmerston - there was a prawn farm there. Nice looking, large tiger prawns, very reasonably priced but Pat thought they were a bit too salty. The park wasn't cheap but if I'm in the area when a cat 5 cyclone blows in, I'm going to ride it out in the amenities block!!!
