I posted a video in the Jokes section of horses laughing at a guy trying to reverse a horse float.
I think that it may have been frowned upon by some who who believe we should help anyone who cant back a trailer. As I mentioned in that topic I have been told to mind my own business when offering help to some so now I just keep my mouth shut.
So I will offer some basic info on here with help from a Utube video
Seeing that this has appeared to have turned into a serious post in the Jokes Topic I feel I should provide some basic information on reversing a caravan in the general forum.
The bloke in this video explains it in simple terms.
At the three minute thirty second mark he makes an extremely important point when he suggests that you adjust mirrors to view the wheels.
This is easy to do with electric mirrors and really easy with Clearview type mirrors but I am dumbfounded how many people have no idea where the wheels of their van are tracking when reversing.
Another hint that is not in the video is if you reverse your caravan until it is as close to 90 degrees to the car and stop and have an assistant place a strip of insulation tape on the front of the van to align with the rear corner of your car then this will give you a reference point from which you will know the angle of your van.
Do this for both sides so it becomes easier to reverse to either the right or the left using your mirrors.
You may even want to make the reference points permanent if you aren't reversing that often or don't have anything on the front of the van that may be a good reference point.
Anyway to know where your van wheels are tracking will go a long way to help you get into that difficult park site.

In Europe a lot of the caravan parks are so tight you have to take the caravan off & reverse it in.
My brother in law got the remote control device party due that he has had both hips replaced & doesn't want to do any further damage.
The device works brilliantly. It clamps an electric drive roller onto each of the wheels of the caravan.
Basically all you see in Europe is remotely controlled caravans.
Yes they are a very helpful addition for manoeuvring a van.
European vans are generally a lot lighter in weight than our Aussie built units and the additional weight of those van movers make them prohibitive on the heavier units in Australia.
Some van sites in Aus are getting smaller or more to the point our vans are generally getting bigger.
