One has to be able to pop out & purchase a $1.5m diamond covered face mask!

We are allowed to buy a car during lockdown.

Our Land Rover is a MY13, we (wife, or it would be life threatening) would have to check out a Range Rover Autobiography before we hand over our (my) money!

Undoubtedly there will be some who can't see what's Right, and although we are not supposed to discuss politics,I would like to say that one would have to be a special type of stupid to vote for what's Left.Cheers

Now footy is an essential event:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-17/covid-qld-transmission-in-sports-stadiums-delta-outbreak/100299464

Are the health authorities stupid? Didn't they see what happened at the MCG? WTF?

Bastards.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-17/police-charge-three-men-over-alleged-nsw-covid-breach/100301974

"It will be alleged the younger three men made the journey despite being notified they had tested positive for the virus."

"Before travelling to Molong, police say the men went to Figtree in the Illawarra region, and also stopped in South Bowenfels and Orange."

A sad twist to the story:

NSW records fifth death from COVID-19 Delta outbreak, woman in her 50s found inside her home:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-19/nsw-records-fifth-death-from-delta-outbreak/100305326

"New South Wales has recorded its fifth death from the COVID-19 Delta outbreak after a woman in her 50s was found dead inside her home in Green Valley in Sydney's south west.

The ABC understands the woman is the mother of twin removalists charged with breaching public health orders after travelling from Sydney to the Central West."

Another 7 days of lock-down for Victoria - there is no doubt the events of last year here are dictating their response now

Well I note that Qld has finally closed the border to NSW tonite at midnight or maybe it is 1 AM.

So that means that all the NRL players, families, staff and other hangers on have finally got there arses across the border and into the *footy bubble*

Does anyone else see how stupid her (Annas) government looks when she closes the border to Sa when they had two cases and to VIC when they had far less than a third of the cases in NSW.
Oh don't get me wrong, I am glad the borders are closed but not as glad as I would be if Morrison had have closed the international borders so that we would have avoided this current fiasco.
Did anyone see the celebrations of winning the Olympics, it was a given, no one else apparently was in the bid.

I hope that collection of hyperactive supporters doesn't turn in to a *super spreader event*

Well, then I have seen the most false report how Anna has been ordered to stay and attend the opening of the *Games* by some official on the Olympic Games board.

Even with their masks on I am sure I could see those two laughing at all Aussies and particularly Queenslanders.

My view is, we arent childrenif you are going to the Olympics Anna then say it as it is.. Bull**** might be accepted in the yuppy areas in Brisbane but not through the rest of the state where normal people live and not in the rest of Australia.

I will rest tonight and return when the next wave of crap consumes our media reports.

Good night

Just an observation.

Disclaimer. We own two units so technically we each live in our own unit as each unit is in one name. So very convenient for the current circumstances.

Only one person per household can go shopping but you can exercise with one neighbour. We walk a kilometre to the shops to get some exercise & thus avoid the fitness routes which are more crowded than the city which we can see from our windows. We keep off public transport & save petrol by not using the car. So we are winning on every measure!

Nevertheless I waited outside the supermarket while my neighbour shopped. I hate shopping.

Standing in the cold outside, from which I will probably die of, I was shocked at the shere volume of people buying just a very few items in the supermarket as I watched them return to their cars. Out of 100 prople, about 98% had a few items in their hands or one bag. There was only 2 trolley loads.

Just one observation.

Gladys is presently on TV and advising us that the spread of the virus in NSW is now a NATIONAL EMERGENCY.

I am dumbfounded that she is blaming the poor roll out of the vaccine as opposed to her own pie in the sky belief that NSW had the virus under control when her negligent attitude, views and actions, were to support the Feds and their dangerous intention to keep international borders open.

We are an island, this could have been so simple.
Before all you people come on and tell us all that we need freight from overseas, well from personal experience in life, the only freight that I have ever seen move around from place to place, is livestock.

People, and the movement of those people are spreading this virus.

Stop the movement and stem the spread.

Stop infected people arriving from overseas and then being quarantined in, what has been less than adequate facilities will stem the spread of the virus in this country.

Anyone who thinks that any country with a virus in a manageable state can continue to bring infected people from other countries into our country is a total dim wit and should not be in charge of our country.

Thank goodness that we are not at a war of combat and we needed to rely on someone who has created such a mess.

Maybe our politicians are smarter than we give them credit for.

Does anyone think this virus is going away? Does anyone think we can have lockdowns forever? To me it's pretty obvious the answer to both questions is NO.

So at some point we have to abandon lockdowns and the restrictions that go along with them. Now? Nope. If we dropped those restrictions now the health impacts would be horrific. Not enough people vaccinated.

As evidenced by comments in this thread, there is a strong resistance from many to be vaccinated, or to reject AstraZeneca due to its miniscule risk. But we have a shortage of Pfizer and the age recommendation has been set to 60, very much a kneejerk reaction. In UK it is 30.

So, maybe those setting the rules are running a balance between stopping the spread (thus causing complacency in the community), or allowing the numbers to grow a little (thus causing concern .... "I had better get vaccinated"). If they get the balance right the vaccination rate will grow, and save lives in the long term. If they lockdown too hard, the community will delay getting their vaccines, and lockdowns will continue for longer.

So, what would you do? Close things down to eliminate the current spread, with the downside being continued resistance to vaccination, and just delaying the inevitable. Or allow it to spread, resulting in panic in the community, but more people vaccinated. What balance would you choose?

Just my thoughts on it.

Here's another option:

https://www.aljazeera.com/features/2021/7/23/lower-vaccine-doses-key-to-ending-covid-pandemic

"During an outbreak of Yellow Fever in Brazil in 2018, there was a global shortage of vaccines.

In the face of those limitations and the viruss rapid spread, health officials in Brazil decided to administer fractional dosing. They gave people one-fifth of the normal dose."

Meanwhile, cases are rising in all 50 states, and have tripled in the past month.

On June 21, the US was averaging 12,000 infections per day. That figure is now 38,000. Hospitalisations have also spiked.

Of the people in hospital with covid, about 97 per cent are unvaccinated. And among those who have died recently, 99.5 per cent were unvaccinated.

The US vaccine rollout has slowed considerably after a fast start in the first half of the year. A little under half the population is fully vaccinated, while two-thirds of people have received at least one shot.

The government is struggling to convince the remaining third of Americans to get the vaccines. Public polling has consistently shown about 30 per cent of the country does not intend to be vaccinated.

This is becoming a pandemic of the unvaccinated, Dr Walensky said during a public health briefing on the day Wyatt died.

We are seeing outbreaks of cases in parts of the country that have low vaccination coverage, because unvaccinated people are at risk, and the communities that are fully vaccinated are generally faring well.

The good news is that if youre fully vaccinated, you are protected against severe covid, hospitalisation and death, and are even protected against the known variants, including the Delta variant.

If you are not vaccinated, you remain at risk. And our biggest concern is that were going to continue to see preventable cases, hospitalisations and, sadly, deaths among the unvaccinated.
