Personally I would go the fitted diesel heater you mentioned. That or a fitted gas heater. I have a gas heater fitted to my aluminium teepee and have no regrets whatsoever. I got the gas one because I already had two 9kg gas bottles on front and didn't want to carry the diesel around as well.
You can sort weights etc out accordingly.

My reservations with these all in one systems are as follows ---
A). Where do the "by products of combustion" go....?? If into the ambient air of the van, then carbon monoxide poisoning is a real possibility. If not into the internal air of the van, do you need to cut holes in the floor / wall etc.
B.) Does the unit have a thermostat control, to allow the unit to be turned down to cut noise levels and running costs.
C.) Are you able to recirculate the internal air of the van through the heater, to allow the unit to self regulate once the van has achieved the desired temperature...?
D.) Purchasing gas in these smaller disposable cylinders is the most costly way to purchase it.
Diesel every time. Fuel available everywhere, safer and easy to carry spare fuel. Hotter. This is designed for disposable gas cannisters (expensve) but it can be connected to standard bottles.
Bomurra raised concerns about exhaust gases inside. It's designed to be placed outside and ducted in. There is no way it would be safe for the combustion to be inside.
But for a camper, maybe these would be a reasonable solution due to portability.
The problem I see with these portable heaters ,being gas or diesel,are that you have to go outside your tent or van to operate them .
You fire them up go inside warm up the place ,if you go to bed and don't want them running all night ,you get up go outside in the cold and turn them off.
In the morning when the area is cold you get up go outside in the cold and turn them on,to bad if it is wet and raining.
Better to fit one in permanent,just reach over and push a button.
Hi Mike I also fitted a Chinese heater about 4 yrs ago and am very happy with it however so far we have only used it for short bursts and it heats our rig in no time. Do you leave your heater on all night as you are in cold country? Ours does not have a digital heat control just a dial with various calibrations of heat level. Regards Tony

No, I am not a fan of heating during sleep time I think one's bedding should be sufficient. I have a quality feather quilt which is fine down to ambient temperatures of 0C or a little lower, below that I put a wool blanket over it and that's good to, at least -6C.
Tip: wool bedsocks and a beannie, although not sexy, are most practical :)

Let me ask these very serious questions 1.. is this heater a stand alone unit ?,, 2... Where is the exhaust going from the unit ?
Have you heard or read about 2 guys who died from carbon monoxide filling their tent , they were found dead by caravan park owner in morning.
Buy a gas heating unit installed in your caravan they weigh may be 5kilos , and fitted under bed they are out of the way. You must also fit a carbon monoxide warning alarm you buy at bunnings . Dont play with your life , you only have one.
