A good find Possum, so thanks for putting that up

Although we no longer travel with animals (fur babies)

I would be having a rethink, about taking a fur baby, up north, especially if it was a large fur baby

Many of the dogs this guy will be treating will be camp dogs. They are rarely de-sexed, never vaccinated and just roam - there is zero care for these animals given. They breed as often as a bitch comes on heat, the pups are just allowed to wander off to wherever and breed, and it starts all over again.

The lucky ones get homes, where they can come inside, but are still complete, unvaccinated, untreated. They get fed regularly and that's about it. Oh, and sometimes the Rangers can say 'That dog belongs to this person'.

How do I know? I live out here. Have done for years (it's in WA, the NT and QLD). Keep your dog out of those lovely grassy spots (stay on gravel, tarmac etc) and away from town dogs. I personally resist going to any other Community towns because I've heard the stories... Work try to get me to go, I find excuses not to.

I am in no way disputing this is atrocious. It is. But so is parvo, which is endemic in the Maranoa/Fraser Coast areas of Qld, the Northern Goldfields (at least) of WA and probably the NT too. It travels in the dust we kick up. There's a vaccine, but no guarantees - and it kills puppies. Vets in the Maranoa were getting pups fully vaxed by 12 weeks as opposed to the usual 16 to try to give them at least a fighting chance.

We just have to stay aware, take precautions. And if you have the option of leaving Fluffy at home, that's a good one to take. My boy (so far) is OK. He gets tick treated, tick checked. He is kept well clear of town dogs and knows the 'Nope Rope' command for long grass (it means 'Don't go in there snot!')

Spot on PAWS UP, ill also say that recently we were in cooberpedy for a few nights on the outskirts of town , when taking our staffy out to go to the toilet one night ,we ,or should i say our dog was attacked by two savage large dogs, the side of her face had been peeled back as they each had one end of her. After my wife and i got our little girl back into the house we were renting we called the local police to no avail, so we dialled 000, while waiting approx 10 minutes for police, the dogs came back and stood at our door. long story short, the police said they were camp dogs( belong to the community), and didnt want to upset them. ps-- no vets in cooberpedy at the time, we took our dog to tennant creek.
