Newbie from Townsville

Hi, just joined. I live in Townsville and am about 6 months off from retirement.  We just bought a Jayco Starcraft Outback with dual axles, 19'6" with island bed layout.  The van is in immaculate condition, you would swear its just came off the showroom floor. We bought it from a relative of a friend in Cairns and therefore know its history fairly well.  We pick it up from Cairns this weekend if the roads aren't flooded. Bit nervous about the drive home as we have never towed a full sized van before.  Tow tug is a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 3.0L diesel so no problems with weight.  The van comes with a Hayman Reese WDH.  In Townsville it will live in storage as we live in an apartment in the city. First plans are to populate the cupboards with the usual kitchen and recreation stuff, keeping an eye on weight and utility.  Then we will do some preliminary electrical work (Anderson to fridge via VSR, cooling fans in vent of 3 way fridge) followed by weekend trips to van parks and free camps from Mackay to Cairns. Eventually I will fit it out with a full off-grid solar system (looking at Enerdrive components at the moment).  Then some big trips all over this wide brown land. Can't wait!

Welcome to the gang Andy, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Townsville hey! I spend from late April to mid September staying at my daughters place near Willows. I set up the aluminium teepee in the driveway. Unfortunately, I didn't get there last year due to Covid and have decided to give it a miss this year as well. I have got to know a few people in Townsville over the many years staying there. I do like he place but couldn't stay during the wet season as I don't cope with humidity or cyclones crycryno

It sounds like you have your head around all the things needed to be done with van and tug so just plod along and enjoy the ride.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Welkom, to GN's Andy. I'm sure you will enjoy your new acquisition and it seems you have the right gear to explore the great outdoors in wider Oz.
