We are thinking of pulling our 3.2 tonne van with our Landcruiser 200 up this road in mid June 2021. I understand there are some very steep sections and tight bends.
Is it relatively safe and is there much traffic?
Are there 'pull overs' to let following traffic pass?
In season there is a lot of cane hauling semi-trailers up and down that road. I'm not sure of the traffic after or before cane harvesting. It is two-lane bitumen all the way. The gradient is not particularly steep, it will be the bends and curves that limit your speed and probably drop you back an extra gear. It is a long climb si I generally pull the auto selector back for a lower gear and let the motor spin at over 2500 RPM. That way there is less slip in the torque converter and your gearbox temperature will not rise as much.
Enjoy your trip.
