Hi we have a custom concept Ascot 21.5 that we currently tow with a Ford ranger and it does it well. The ranger is going soon, And I have decided on a New 110 D300 defender, was wondering is there many out there already doing the job? And how you find it? Thanks in advance and stay safe.
Don't quote me, but I seem to remember reading something about the Defender having a very restrictive towball weight limitation. 150kgs springs to mind.
I could be wrong and thinking of something else but worth checking out.
I have never owned a Defender but I have noted they come with some good towing reports but I have observed from some that service and maintenance costs can be extremely high.
Just a quick google tells me that they have a max towing of 3500 kg and depending on the tow bar a tbw of 350.
As usual with most manufacturers all the specifications are never really easy to access.
There is a 150kg limit on the towball, but only for trailers with no brakes or override brakes.
In Australia, 350kgs with full electric brakes and rated hitch or 10% of trailer weight, whichever is the lesser.
Warnings to ensure that axle loads stay within limits. Rear axle varies depending on model.
Thanks people, yes aware of the limitations and requirements fir my van and tow vehicle. The defender looks and drives great, just dont see them out there towing when they are such a great vehicle fir doing it. We will keep it in the back of our minds as we travel and see the different options.
