Very well done Orid, congratulations. And to think you did it without demanding a full refund on your house insurance to boot  no

Perhaps you could try re-selling your tickets on gumtree or ebay someone should be interested in buying them

I'm under the impression that consumer law requires refund policy for bookings (hotels and such) to reflect the loss of the owner. eg.if you cancel a caravan site six months before the booked date there is a very high chance the site can be re-let and the owner must use reasonable efforts to do so and if successful refund all but the costs incurred by the re-letting process. If, however, you cancel one week before he probably can't re-let and is entitled to the whole fee. You cancelled six? weeks before a festival weekend so I'd have thought the chances of another customer were high.

Perhaps confirm the above with your consumer affairs department then write a formal letter requesting a full refund and stating you have sought advice from consumer affairs. $480 is a decent sum and this behaviour sounds unreasonable to me.

Posters should keep in mind that terms and conditions, irrespective of whether you agreed to them or not, cannot override Australian law.

House insurance:

When the combined buildings and contents premiums exceeded around $1000 per year I decided to cancel both and carry my own risk. The last time I obtained a quote they had risen to $1800 or more - I'm about $30,000 better off for that decision. And now that I no longer own a house or ever shall I won that game :)

Excellent news Orid - I think you were badly treated.

I've been bush for a couple of weeks with no mobile signal so I'm catching up on stuff.
