Tyres replacement for 100 series Landcruiser

Well, the time has arrived for us to replace our tyres on the Cruiser.

The following may be of assistance when giving us your recommendations.

 

Our travels are mainly on blacktop roads. 

We tow a 22ft Coromal Princeston with an ATM of 2900 kg.

Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM) is the total mass of the trailer when carrying the maximum load recommended by the manufacturer.   

We currently have Bridgestone and they have never let us down.

What is the best type of tyre for us to have installed on the cruiser?

I guess that cost and performance is a factor we will need to look into.

 

So... Looking for professional advice from my Grey Nomad mates.

See if you can find the EU tyre rating chart for the tyres you might consider.

These are compulsory in Europe. It wold be very useful to consumers if it was the same here.
Variations in fuel consumption can be a MUCH bigger financial consideration than tyre life or cost.

Friend with an LC has had an excellent run out of Maxxis Tyres over the years he's owned it. Been all over Australia towing a large trailer on a commercial basis.

Hi John....assuming your car has 16x8 rims,there are many brands to choose from.Some brands are twice the price of cheaper ones,if price is important to you? Bridgestone 697s seem to be OK,although I replaced mine with BFG KO2s...they were a disaster! Now I run Mickey Thompsons,but you pay for them! Maxxis seem to get good reviews,as do Toyo,but only you can determine what is the "...best type of tyre..." for your needs. Good luck with your choice...there is a tyre shop near your home that comes recommended by friends.If you would like their name,just PM me.Cheers.

I would be very interested to know what happened with the BFG's?, I was looking at KO2 for my cruiser.

 Hi Vince...Many people swear by KO2s,but I found them to be terrible.Very noisy,which didn't bother me at all,but the tread blocks soon started to chip,with chunks of rubber coming off.As well as being dangerous in the wet,they also were hard to balance. Had a bit of a play with Toyo,which were good,but I ended up with Mickey Thompson. Tyres are one thing you do not mess around with,and at the weights I run,it's important to choose carefully.Good luck with your search. Cheers

If you were satisfied with Bridgestone why not stick with them.

I went thru most other brands without success ended up with
Bridgestone Dueler A/T 697 265/75/16 LT on my 100 series & van
Found them to be the best allround in all conditions on & off-road
towing 3200kg van, car had boat plus, long range fuel tanks.
