which state offers the best value when buying a new motorhome

I am looking at buying a new Jayco motorhome.

I am wondering which state has the best value in regard to the standard on road charges. Stamp duty, rego etc? and then the ongoing annual costs, green slip, rego etc?

I live in Sydney, but only in rented accomodation, so i dont need to register it here.

We live in QLD. Purchased in NSW and registered in NSW. We saved on duty. But technically it's illegal. Even though the NSW folks we used knew what we were doing. When the rego was due we registered in QLD because I wasn't comfortable with using a "false" address in NSW. To rego in QLD I needed inspections etc. The cost to change over almost equalled the initial savings. IMHO it's not worth the stuffing around.

SA has no annual inspections and Pensioners get cheaper registration for one vehicle under 4.5T GVM.

You better check Graham, as I believe most authorities require a bricks and mortar address to register/insure the vehicle.

In Western Australia, there are no annual vehicle inspections

If you are on an OAP (Old Age Pension), I am led to believe that the cost of a drivers licence is free

Not sure if there are any concessions for registration of vehicles, if you are on an OAP

There is a concession on the car rego, not sure on the caravan, I will need to go outside to check but the weather is very wet at present so I'll wait awhile.

You need a "Garaging address", but it could be a caravan park or a friend's residence, used with their written permission.

Oh, i will have a bricks and morter address, both in Victoria, and in N.S.W

I think the lack of a yearly roadworthy check in Vic might work better.

I also have the personal rego plates that i still own in Victoria.

GDAYJR will be on the rig.
