Weight of total rig day before departure.

Before our trip north for the winter of 2021, We are going to have our rig go over the weighbridge.

Firstly, the weighbridge is only about 5 klms away from home, plus it is a free service. No $$$$ involved.

The day before leaving on our trip, with the Cruiser and van virtually fully loaded it is off to the weighbridge. The good wife (DEE) will be coming with me.

I am going to weigh the cruiser fully loaded first.

Then come home and attach the van and off again to the weighbridge to weigh the total rig, again with (Dee)

This will then give me the total rig weight, then minus the cruiserweight to then have the van weight.

I guess that it is just my old fashion way of doing things.

When you weigh the cruiser, take the time to weigh your axles as well, repeat the process with van attached.

Hi John...Great to see that you're being responsible with your weights, but,as Graham suggested,it is critical that your car's axles be weighed separately, both with the van on,and off.A 300kg towball weight will put around 430kgnonto your car's rear axle. Not at home at the moment, but pretty sure that your GVM is 3260kg,but I cannot recall the axle capacities.Later. today I will see what I can find.Pretty sure your van's ATM is around 3200kg,so car should handle it OK,with 300kg towball weight,as this will give you,on paper, around 2900kg GTM behind a car that will have weight on wheels of just over 3100kg.Perhaps you could let us know your weighbridge results, but watch the car's rear axle weight.Good luck John! Cheers

Yep!weight and GVM's are constant problems. Making use of the public weighbridges is good practice, but gave me a jolt first time I weighed up. I now drive without filling my water tank. No point in carrying 110kg of water when I can get it closer to where I am going to camp. Also, that extra water just tips me over the GVM. If I'm on a highway, then the traffic officers will not be impressed. I empty the tank before I leave for home for the same reasons.
