I fail to see how the shoe is on the other foot, Whenarewethere
My area (The South West of Western Australia), is a part of the snap lockdown, which starts in a few hours time
If I had recently travelled to your area, and told to go into quarantine, as I well may have been an unwilling carrier of the virus, I would do so, without any arguments, to help stop the pandemic
As it is, I happen to be home, and was planning a road trip, within Western Australia.
I am not complaining, but just explaining, what I will now do
In a nutshell I shall do exactly nothing
I shall not be going on a road trip, or leaving my home willy nilly, I shall also not be looking for any loopholes which will allow me to go willy nillying around the countryside
This is 1, that's one, case. Are we going to panic and lock down everytime there is 1 case? If so this is what we will be doing forever because no amount of vaccine or lockdown will ever eliminate covid-19. If you think Australia can eliminate it good for you. But it will mean 0, zero, international flights. No ships. No nothing. Good luck living in Australia with no international contact. Good luck in WA with no exports or imports. Ship crews have tested positive. So what do you do about them?
The WA premier has been so smug especially with remarks about NSW. Well NSW is handling their cases without shutting down whole cities. His words are now coming back to haunt him. Lets see what his attitude is after the election.
The shoe is on the other foot. We need to lock the borders & hotel quarantine Sandgropers at their expense!
X2
SA and NT should shut the borders immediately and NSW not accept any West Australians unless have been quarantined for 28 days at their own expense in one of NSW guarded hotels
cheers

Tony,
I believe that WAWT means is that your Premier has been very proscriptive in what he says he has done to keep WA, community based Cv19 free, telling all the other Premiers how good it was, and inferring how they should do their jobs. The inference appeared to be only he had the answers. He has then imposed border restrictions that have cost many travellers a great deal of money at very short notice, for very little reward as I am not aware of any domestic travellers to WA testing positive. As with much of what has been done around the country, it was more for political than medical expedience.
What today proves is that no system of control is 100% safe, and we must be on guard to ensure we maintain our good record. Unfortunately I think some in the other states feel this is a bit of a deserved come up pence for your Premier. I sincerely hope all in WA are safe, and this doesnt signal an outbreak there, as it has elsewhere.

We have been to Europe business class & can highly recommend it! But I will be buggered if I spend money on imprisonment. We are quite happy staying at home & saving money. Well that's not going to help anyone.
I feel very sorry for all these people who can't get home, mostly no fault of their own. No home, no work, no money, increasing health issues, continuously cancelled boarding dates, can't plan anything & extortion which has been exasperated by the extended lockouts & woeful management.
We are not living in the "throw out your dead" times. The problem we have is simply political expedience.

I shall not lower myself to go and look for links, but I am still lucky enough to have a bit of memory
I do recall that in the main, the West Australia Premier, was sometimes replying to other State premiers, who were condemning the WA hard borders
I do recall that more than one State Premier, said that we should not be having quarantine in populated areas, in case the virus escapes from quarantine
From day 1, we never knew enough about Covid-19, so we learned by mistakes, and we still (in my opinion) do not know, what we do not know, about this virus
From what I can make out, a security guard in a quarantine hotel, in a populated area, caught the virus, without (if we can believe it) any hanky panky
As the virus could be the English strain, which I am led to believe is highly contagious, the Premier was probably left with two choices
Choice 1, do nothing and learn to live with it, as it is only one person, and it will keep the learn to live with it brigade happy
Choice 2, follow the directions of the health people, who recommended the snap lockdown
As a person within this lockdown area, I am actually glad, that our Premier always follow health advice, and I will adapt to this lockdown
Tony, Vic had an issue with hotel security and over 800 died. SA had an issue with hotel security and the state went into lockdown. Qld had an issue with hotel security and there was a lockdown. Now the WA premier was quick to tell the NSW premier how to run her covid cases. Now you trust the same premier to keep you safe? He watched the other state's fail at hotel security. Lectured them for it. Now it has come back to bite on his butt. And you trust him?
More fool you.
I live 2km from Sydney's North Head Quarantine Station. We often walk around the area. The dead have unbelievable views! There are information boards of what happened 100 years ago.
What I fail to understand is with the thorough knowledge of the Spanish Flu, 100 years later with all the resources at hand one would have thought we would be more capable of managing a pandemic today.

Hi bgt
I do recall a billionaire who tried his very best, with the backing of the Prime Minister, to crack open the West Australia hard border
Firstly they said that the border closure was hurting West Australians, then they said that it was unconstitutional, or words to that effect
I do recall that the West Australia Premier, stood firm, and the border stayed closed
You ask if I trust the West Australia Premier, of course I do, he only lives about 200 kilometres away from me, what happens to me, will probably happen to him
You say that I am a fool for trusting the West Australia Premier, that is your opinion. which in my opinion, is not a good opinion of me
If you can produce proof, that he is not looking after my interest, then as a person living in West Australia, I will start jumping up and down
In the meantime, until the day I loose my memory, I shall never forget the people, who tried to crack open the west Australia border
McGowan has acted swiftly and decisively which is far more than can be said for a couple of other State Premiers.
Right through this crisis McGowan has done his best to protect West Australians. If that has put a dent in a few travel plans so be it.
The vast majority of West Aussie's support him 100% regardless of their normal political persuasion.
As far as this being one case, this gentleman in the past 3 days has travelled over a large portion of the metro area prior to it being discovered he was positive, so the lock down is warranted until they can check if he has spread it around.
Unless our Federal Government wake up and stop all international travellers coming in until a vaccine makes enough progress, these instances will keep occurring as there will always be some Muppet who believes the rules don't apply to them.
The silly fool running NSW keeps carping on but as far as I am concerned she and all of her ilk can go to hell.

Exactly thats why the borders to WA should be closed to stop the spread of the virus especially as it could be (another strain )crossing over to the east where the population is much greater. Seems like a no brainer to me act before its too late and thats got nothing to do with politics it about the health and safety of the population and our country.Good luck Perth I hope its controlled quickly.
Cheers John

Political? I could make this discussion political but I wont. It's about common sense and managing the virus. Can't anyone see the future if every time a case pops up there is a shut down? NSW has managed the virus. They haven't shutdown larger areas for 1 case. And can't those who say shut our international borders get why that is simply not possible? Can't anyone see or learn from the mistakes with other states hotel quarantine?
WA has been fed fear and they are buying it. The ability to see and think logically seems to not be possible in WA. It's all about 'me' and not the big picture. Good luck in the future because you will need it.
2 deaths in Australia from covid in 6 months. How many road deaths in that time? We don't ban driving. and drivers take that risk every day. How many in Australia have died from lung cancer in the past 6 months? But we don't ban smoking. Manage the risk. Don't hide from it.
BGT, you do go on mate, blah, blah, blau. Common sense you say!, manage the virus you say!.
I think you live in la la land, thank god the majority don't think like you.
Well done WA, your state, manage it as you see fit, the rest should butt out.
Ian
Wanda personal attacks just roll off my back. Its simply a sign that you don't have a common sense response. And telling the rest of Australia to 'butt' out' is a bit rich considering the WA premier was quick to tell other states what to do.
The rest of Australia has shown WA how to handle the virus. Ignore that experience and learn the hard way.

Great post Bruce, but possibly contains a bit too much logic for some to understand? Cheers
Common sense ! Something that you lack I feel and something you cannot teach.
I did start to reply to your comment above, but, do you know what, I could not be bothered.
I repeat, thank god the majority, inluding "most " of our leaders, don't think like you.
Ian
Well done and congratulations to all Eastern states for reacting swiftly to close your borders to us West Aussies. Very sensible, and shows you are learning fast from our WA Premier (Mark McGowan) who is well appointed and fully supported by all sensible West Australians.

Have to agree there, well done WA and absolutely the rest of the other leaders in their reactions to close borders so quickly.
I see WA is coming up for elections soon, will be interesting to see how Mark Mc Gowan will go, I suspect he will get backin with a land slide.
I think it would be fair to say that, WA, SA, Qld, NT, ACT, Tasmania and even to some extent Vic leaders have all acted in the best interest of the people with hard lockdowns when necessary.

I agree with that view.
When there is a covid case the process of tracing and possible contact needs to be instigated. Lock downs and border closures help this process to occur.
Qld recently had a lockdown in the greater Brisbane area over three days to enable contact tracing and testing.
WA has just announced a five day lockdown for the same reason.
Did anyone see the media interview with Gladys this morning? I could not help but to notice how much in agreeance she was with WA doing what they felt they need to do to control this pandemic, but when Anna closed the area around Brisbane she went ballistic. Gladys also maintained a constant criticism of the Qld premier for closing the state to Sydney until they tidied their mess up down there. Sniping from Gladys always makes for an attention seeking media report.
The Qld general public displayed their support for the way the lockdowns and border closures were carried out as this was reflected in the result of the recent state election. I am sure a similar reflection will occur in WA.
From my observations, the minority are the ones who make the most noise but that is apart from the media consistently trying write their own story.
Collectively as a country we are learning a lot and I am sure that the WA premier regrets the loophole in his lockdown security when this has been the case as proved in NSW Vic and SA in recent times.
Iam glad I live in Australia and I am glad that all our premiers have acted swiftly in putting methods in place to control this pandemic.

Thank you Tony,
Australia has done so well in controlling this virus and we are all so lucky...even the knockers.
