Medication shortage

If I have interpreted what I have read correctly

It seems that we are heading for a medication shortage, due to disruption of healthcare supply chains from overseas

It appears that Australia is not set up to produce drugs locally, due our high cost, compared with offshore manufacturing

My thoughts are, damn the cost, let us start to manufacture the medications in Australia

India is the largest supplier of medicines and tablets - I believe shortages are due to transport logistical problems and will be short-lived.

Good to hear that Possum, the article did not mention, (or I did not interpret), that the supply shortage will be short lived

The Indian Cricket Team got in OK and more than likely will get home OK. Medication should be a priority.

It looks like the Government is aware of this problem

I have just come across an article dated end of September 2020

They are going to pump money into manufacturing, of things we have become short of, since coronavirus started

One of the things mentioned is Medicine

This has been noticeable for a while, we have had quite a few different brands substituted over what was prescribed

Brands don't really bother me that much as long as they do the same thing inside ya.

I call my meds 'keep alives' so if they are not available I spose I'm a gonna.

Well there you go  ... I thought that China & the US were the major drug manufacturers .... Wrong again but happy to be so.

Hate buying Chinese & detest the USA 'Big Phama'.

Edit .... Just to confuse the issue ... from Wikipedia   .. These are EXPORTS & don't account for local consumption.

2018[edit]

Below are the 15 countries that exported the highest dollar value worth of drugs and medicines during 2018.

  1. Germany: US$62.3 billion (16.8% of total drugs and medicines exports)
  2. Belgium: $27.8 billion (7.5%)
  3. France: $25.9 billion (7%)
  4. United States: $22 billion (5.9%)
  5. Spain: $21.8 billion (5.8%)
  6. Ireland: $21.7 billion (5.8%)
  7. United Kingdom: $19.7 billion (5.3%)
  8. Italy: $19.6 billion (5.3%)
  9. Netherlands: $16.8 billion (4.5%)
  10. India: $14.8 billion (3.8%)
  11. Denmark: $13 billion (3.5%)
  12. Canada: $6.8 billion (1.8%)
  13. Sweden: $6.7 billion (1.8%)
  14. Austria: $5.5 billion (1.5%)
