Dometic B3000 airconditioner

Our Dometic aircon (2012) unit worked fine in December 2020, yesterday nothing, no orange led, horror stories on the net, 80kms to the nearest possible repairer. Now, yes I have some electronics knowledge, no I am not licensed, no I am not a aircon technician, I hope that covers all the naysayers. So I investigated, disconnected the power, removed the covers, and saw two PCB's, one large Main board and 1 small control board. Horror of horrors main board $599.95 (RR $700) small one $264.95 (no stock) My experience tells me look for the simple problem first. The push button switch (tactile 6mm square) removed pcb from cover checked with multimeter sure enough switch open circuit. Replacement switch from JayCar $0.95cents. Not everyone can do this I know but you might have friend or access to someone who can remove the failed switch and solder in a new one, because $264.95 is an absolute RIP off.  Caravans are getting like boats (bring out another thousand). Anyway board installed, powered up and all is well again.

Symptom aircon dead, orange LED off, pressing power button does nothing. Photo's included to show locations and mounting socket screws and $0.95c switch. Winge time...the 230V fuse and the main board can only be accessed from the roof...REALLY what a great design for repair rip offs. Not everyone can do this repair but it should prevent you from being taken down by repairers because they will replace the board not fix it...cheers20210119_144257.jpg20210119_143535.jpg20210119_145639.jpg20210119_150832.jpg

Yes marvelous, would have done the same myself.

Turned on fan in roof vent two days ago and the led's flashed a code which in the book said motor locked, which it wasn't. Pulled motor out, jammed screw driver in to open it up, cleaned armature with fine wet and dry, used a sharp point to clean out the small groves, works like new..biggrin

Thanks for that. I must confess that the switch would not have been one of my usual suspects, but I would have tested it first anyway.

Often just unplugging connectors & reconnecting is enough.

I had a fuse which was fine but the surface had corroded a bit. Out & back in problem fixed.
