I've taken the risk of a flu shot every year for many years and that paid off...haven't got the flu.!smile

When I get notified I'll be first in line for this Covid vaccine.

I have never had a flu shot and I have never had the flu.

I might just wait to see how it goes.

Though if I wait a couple of years I'll be in the frail & vulnerable group that it is now killing.

only had the flu once or twice, never had a flu shot till work started giving them, then doctor started giving it yearly .
have not had flu since but when i did get it (flu) i was young, fit and healthy an it knocked me down for a couple of days now that i'm old and not so fit and healthy getting a vaccine could be a life saver

Yes dogbox,

I've also noticed that as I get older it takes longer to recover, not only from a cold or flu but any sort of injury, cuts, bruises, stubbed toes, elbow bumps, getting up, etcetera, etcetera.

Over 65? Maybe there's not much point in having the AZ vaccine?

Make of this what you will:

Huh?   I thought that this article dispelled the report that over 65s had a lesser immunity rate using the AZ product. At least that's what I made of it.

It says check with your doctor, not refuse the shot!

Maybe this is a bit clearer ,

Germany's expert vaccine commission has said that the AstraZeneca Covid-19 jab should only be given to people between the ages of 18 and 64, in a startling statement that further dents the EUs flailing vaccine rollout.

"There are currently insufficient data available to assess the vaccine efficacy from 65 years of age," the Standing Vaccine Commission said in the resolution made available by the German health ministry on Thursday.
The AstraZeneca vaccine, unlike the mRNA vaccines, should only be offered to people aged 18-64 years at each stage

AstraZeneca CEO Pascal Soirot previously acknowledged that restrictions in terms of demographics suitable for his company's vaccine were a possibility.

"It's possible that some countries, out of caution, will use our vaccine for the younger group. But honestly, it is fine, Soirot said in a recent interview, adding that given the challenges in rolling out vaccines to as many people as possible, such measures might make sense.

There's not enough vaccines for everybody. So if they want to use another vaccine for older people and our vaccine for younger people, whats the problem?

Why are you always trying to pick a fight Santa? I offered no opinion. I said NOTHING about refusing the shot.

That list doesn't include Russian or Chinese vaccines which have already been deployed.

It's too bad that politics gets in the way of health and welfare. I'm wondering whether Anglo-Australian politics has delivered us an inferior option.

When trump got kicked off all of his fake news (his) platforms, I suffered serious withdrawal symptoms from not getting my morning dose of far right American crazies antics. Luckily I found we have our very own home grown dinki-di aussie crazy leading the crazies in one craig somebody. Supposedly representing some electorate in NSW, but apparently not having much time left after pandering to his willing idiot followers, hopefully his time in the taxpayer-funded spotlight will not extend past the next election. Anyway, the rumours of vaccination shortages are yet another fake news story because there are hundreds of thousands of these conspiracy theorists who would rather die in agony that be vaccinated. All the more for the rest of us. (luckily almost none of his followers live in the electorate he represents)

For all the people on here think %3 of 29000 people die, is not much , 900 people, equate this to Australia, that is about 61,500 people out of 25 million, it may not be much, but that is more then how many have died from covid here , and if you or a member of your family may possibly be one of the 60 thousand plus would you chance it. We have shut down our country, so maybe we will lose 100 people over this year to the virus, if we wait until we know the efficacy of the vaccine, before we commit. We can by all means aquire it, if it can be stored, just wait, until we find out if it is really safe. And, you can't sue the vaccine maker or the government, if you or a family member die's because you or them made the decision to take it, it would then be your fault. So it is like Russian Roulette, just put one round in the pistol chamber, and roll the dice. I don't think  anyone would take that risk.

I will just add one extra equation, %3 of 7 billion people, the population of the planet is 210 million will die if they take the vaccine, how do you like those odds?

Bicyclecamper, the figures quoted, ie the 3%, is the current death rate from Cv19 in Australia. The overall death rate from Cv19 around the world is between 2 and 3% of those who have contracted the disease.

From your post, I may have the wrong end of the stick, but I think you are taking it as the deaths from the vaccine. The last rate I saw of deaths from the vaccine was about 50 times lower than that.

So do your thoughts remain the same?

Don't forget. Its 909 deaths of 25 million. We've done ok.

In the UK 106,500 deaths of 66 million.

We truly are the lucky country.
