Suction caddy in shower

I ended up putting a small amount of supper glue on the outer edge of the suction cup.

No problem since (I have 3 of them) plus toilet roll holder.

Should be easy to remove if need as only small amount used

You can get ones from Howards Storage, (maybe other places), they have a little Vacuum Pump that you attach to the suction cup, to create a real vacuum. They really work on good flat surfaces, had one as a soap holder in the Shower at home but sadly, the wire soap holder went rusty after a few months.

Bunnings ones are not fit for use. Tried a couple on several surfaces including smooth lamipanel and never get more than a few days before they fall off. AND they rust very quickly.

Tried many and found only way to effectively hold for a reasonable period of time is to smear Vaseline petroleum jelly thinly over suction cup - Initially will hold reasonable weights but the effective hold varies between weeks to months (no indication or warning of failure).

Used a corner one in previous van, couldn't remove it so it stayed.

Put a corner one in current van, just suction, no problem.

$20.00 from the cheap shop. wink

All the suction ones that I have tried in our van's have fallen off fairly quickly. Must have tried half a dozen or so . Either I am not selecting the right one or in principle they are ****e.

We put our suction cup shower caddy down on the floor in the corner on raised area of the shower. We have travelled quite a few kms on bumpy roads and it doesnt fall off as its weight is taken by the floor. Simples!

A TEK screw should fix it - if that doesn't do it , just use a longer one.......(and if that doesn't do it you will have to revert to No Nails ...)

See link above, we put something like this on the wall of our Jayco shower. Holds a couple of plastic bottles of shampoo and body wash.
Also, a similar caddy on the wall near our sink, holding detergent and dishbrush.
They were installed about 18 months ago. Been from Brisbane to the west coast of WA and back, to SA and back.
Mostly paved road driving but some gravel roads. They have not fallen off. We have been surprised.

We had a suction caddy in the old van and it was secure for the four years we owned the van. It was fitted by the previous owner.

When we bought the current van we bought a corner caddy from Bunnings.
I cleaned the surface and fitted it but it fell off in around two or three days.
This happened a couple of times so I cleaned everything again and then applied a smear of Silastic to the suction cups.
The result is now four years secure with no problems.

Angie decants the shampoos and body washes into small squeezy type bottles that you would normally have sauces and other liquid condiments in.
This cuts down the weight that the little caddy has to carry.

Yeah Tony, metal ones do rust and tend to fall off.

For the ones like in the link I posted earlier, there is no metal involved. That is why we chose to try them out. As per my earlier post, surprisingly, they have held for 18 months with some travelling involved. Probably, if they fall off, I will use some sealant, as bentaxlebabe has done, to fix them.

Not so with ours Tony LEE.

The one in our original van was from 2008 and we sold the van in 2016 with the caddy still installed.

The one in our current van from 2017 to present day.

Both had no signs of rust. Both did not fall off although the current one is held secure with silastic.

Good value for around the 30 buck mark.

I have a suction cup one and it kept falling off when travelling. So it now sits on the shower floor, with the suction cups just holding the position. That works.

Also, in the shower, twice the shower mixer tap has come on while travelling, resulting in all the water being used. I don't think there is a way to increase the friction, so will need to get another one. Until then we turn off the water pump before moving (if we remember). It's a good habit anyway.
