As you would no doubt be aware, there are many parts of the Brisbane region in a 3-day lockdown, due to a minute sort of outbreak of this C0-vid virus, caused by a person who did no have any knowledge of the fact that the said person had the virus. ( I think I have that right.).
There was panic buying in all the supermarkets in the region on Friday after the announcement.
We live in one of the suburbs mentions, it has had virtually no impact on our lifestyle for the 3 days. I feel for many of the people who will or have been affected by this lockdown.
My view is:- that there will always be breakout clusters until we have all been vaccinated against this dreaded virus.
We most probably have to put a halt to international arrivals in our country, as many parts of the rest of the world have real problems to contain this virus.
I agree that 2021 has not been a good start, in regards to Covid-19
Especially with the mutant of a more contagious strain, of the virus
I think that I have said it before, and I will say it again
The vaccine which is being produced in Australia, should be sent to Countries, which need it more than us
There was some talk, (as I have no idea, if this is right or wrong), I will not post a link
Some elected leaders are going to expand the time, between the first and booster jab, to vaccine more people quicker, in their Countries
Some health people have said, this may give the virus time to become immune to the vaccine
My gut feeling is that, if there was no physical contact between the cleaner, and quarantined person
Then this new strain of the virus, must either be in the air, or on surfaces, longer than we first thought
Why can't Australia give the rest of the world the recipe For the Vaccine and let everyone look after there own. It's all about stopping the Virus worldwide.
This vaccine will be no different to the flu vaccine.
If you choose not to have it is your risk.
All those people worldwide who have been quoted as dying of the flu, had a choice, and they choose not to get vaccinated.
Up to now those people who died of Covid did not have a choice but as of March they will.
I'm from Sydney's Northern Beaches. We had our second lockdown just before Christmas, for a two (three, northern end) weeks. This time there was no panic buying & there was still plenty of toilet paper, babies nappies & womens products the following days.

In my opinion the vaccine should be compulsory. In past flu seasons many elderly people still died after being vaccinated, but the virus was brought into their nursing homes by inconsiderate visitors who chose not to take the jab.

Let's be clear. My understanding is that the vaccine won't stop the spread of covid. It won't stop you from getting it. All it does is stop you from getting very I'll from it. I know there are different vaccines so what's the truth?
We can't and never will close our international border. By law you can't stop Australians from returning home. We can't stop flights because how do we get the vaccine from overseas? How do we get international freight. It has been shown that ships also have covid crews. So do we stop all trade?
As for covid vaccine manufacture many many countries don't have the facilities to manufacture, Australia does. So there has to be trade between countries 're vaccines.
It's to easy to say we should cut our selves off. But it's simply not possible.
And it never will be compulsory. You have the anti folks. You also have folks who have a genuine reason. Many folks want to take the responsibility for their own health and not be dictated to by governments.
The world isn't black and white. Making rash statements shows a lack of understanding and thought.
Getting vaccinated may not be compulsory but your activities might be restricted if you don't.
Airlines will probably require you to be vaccinated before boarding a plane, sporting authorities may make it mandatory to gain entry to large sporting events and so on.
If it is proven to be safe why would anybody not want to get it?
Things seem to be changing all the time with Covid-19, which I will point out, mankind has no previous history of this virus
If I have interpreted the health people correctly, so I could be wrong
It is better for my health, (in my 70's), to have the vaccine, so I will have it, when it is offered
My concern is, and I hope that I am wrong, other countries (according to some health people, by extending the times between the first and boost jab), may allow the virus to become immune to the vaccine

The vaccine WILL stop the spread of COVID-19. That's the whole point of a vaccine. What's not to understand?
If the virus enters your body, you will be ready to fight it, which means you won't become sick from it. If you're not sick, then you're not contagious, so you won't be in a position to retransmit the virus to others.

dorian I suggest you do some research. Many web sites will tell you that it will still be possible to spread covid even after vaccination.
Here's two statement for you, "WHO: No evidence vaccines prevent COVID-19 spread". "Getting vaccinated yourself may also protect people around you, particularly people at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19.". There's 2 quotes following a 1 minute Goggle.

Different vaccines work in different ways.
Let's all be thankful that the national COVID-19 response is not controlled by Trumpist rightards, or by Mr Google, otherwise we would be in the same position as the rest of the world. Personally, I would welcome a government which would hold down ignorant fools and inoculate them in the best interests of the rest of us.

Yes montie and who would they be? Our own CMO has said that it's still possible to spread it. The vaccine isn't the magic bullet that many are expecting. And what about the WHO? Now we believe them when it suits us?
And I agree. You can't believe everything on Google and Facebook. Unless it suits your view!!
dorian you are using political bias as a reason to support your view.
Read more than one web site. Keep an open mind and consider all the data.

The evidence of the effectiveness of vaccines is all around. Vaccines form the basis of modern medicine. Thinking like yours belongs in the dark ages.
When ignorant fools choose not to take the jab, the results are dire. Just take whooping cough and rubella as recent examples. Those poor babies had no chance. They died needlessly because of their mothers' ignorance or stupidity, or both. The world has been given a lifeline, several in fact. Set aside your ignorance, listen to those who are smarter and more knowledgeable than you, and save yourself and those around you.
Or wait for COVID-19 to hit you, and then inject yourself with disinfectant, or whatever Mr Google tells you.

dorian when you start personal attacks then all your credibility is shot. Remember a closed mind isn't good for you. I suggest you open your mind and do some research.
This vaccine is new. You can't compare it to historical data.
When you have a different view to some people, and they don't like it. Straight away they resort to senseless name calling.
Why would you want to take a vaccine from this company.https://www.collective-evolution.com/2021/01/06/pfizer-caught-engaging-in-illegal-marketing-practices-assessed-billions-in-criminal-convictions/
Antivaxxers are dangerous. We should give them no oxygen.
If you are worried about safety, there are plenty of people who will have taken the jab before we get our turn. Sure there are risks, but the benefits far outweigh them.

Magnarc another one who wants to 'name call' rather than offering up something worthwhile. Ignore all opinions but those that suit your own opinion. Read and find the facts rather than wasting time with pointless posts.
I have a very thick skin and and open mind. So bang away if that's all you have to offer.
I think much the same as the flu vaccine, the Cv19 vaccine becomes part of the overall efforts to live with Cv19, the same as we live with the flu.
I agree bgt that as WHO says, it is not going to be the be all and end all of controlling Cv19, but as part of taking responsibility for my own health, it becomes part of the process.
If, as with the flu vaccine, it mitigates the severity of the symptoms, then it is a beneficial inoculation to have, the same as I have the flu vaccine.
Those who choose not to have the vaccine are within their rights. That is their decision. If they then contract Cv19, then it is on their heads. But they must also understand that those places that make vaccination a requirement of entry are also allowed to make that decision and enforce it.
I can see this matter still having a long way to go before we find out what protection if any the vaccines give, what if any restrictions are going to remain or try to be enforced, and what our normal lives are going to look like. The old arguments of rights and responsibilities has a long way to play out yet.
