Noisy Heron 2.2 Airconditioner

I have a Heron 2.2 Split System airconditioner in my 2016 Jayco 14.44, this aircon is very noisy on the outside of the van from the compressor area when it's a hot day, it quietens down when the ambient temp gets cooler, do other people have the same issue or is there something I can do to make it quieter.

It's embarrassing when camped in van parks as it's so noisy.

You're not alone; some friends have a small RV with a rooftop AC which sounds like a jet engine from outside - sorry don't know the make.

Enjoy that heron ,we had one in a Jayco it was great , we had to adjust it up because it used to get too cold! Now we have a u bite rooftop one in the new van ,its more noisy and really battles to get below 27 degrees on a hot day. Regards Orid

You should be able to down load fitting instruction from Heron. It may help point you to an install problem, loose mount or bolt? something rubbing on frame etc

Hi Isakev,
Welcome to the forum - I trust you will enjoy your time here. We are mostly friendly with some occasionally standing on "high horses" - the main thing is that others learn from our experiences, they get easy fixes - saves reinventing the wheel. There is an enormous amount of info stashed away in the memory - you may have to do a an Advanced Search to get it.

Getting back to your query - yes the Heron air conditioners are noisy. My main unit, compressor is under my bed & it can rumble me off to sleep! They are vented down through the floor - not away up in the air as with the more modern roof type units. I'm certain if the compressor was on the roof, there would be no way that I'd be able to lift the ilid!
We haven't had any complaints yet - I think us owners are aware of it & perhaps a bit over sensitive about disturbing the peace.

Thankyou everybody who took the time to reply to my post, much appreciated.
And to Warren, thankyou for your reply, my aircon compressor unit is fitted inside a cupboard at the rear of the van just in front of the rear bunk beds, and it vents out through the R/H side wall, it gets a loud "whirring" noise when working, it's only annoying from outside of the van, inside is fine, I've had one bloke say "it's the loudest aircon he's ever heard", he never complained, was just a comment during a discussion we had.
Thanks again everybody
Cheers.
Kev
