Portable Gas Hot Water.

For many years we had a plastic bucket with a hose QC out the side at the bottom for a short hose with a tap and shower head.
Put a jug full of hot water into the bucket and top it with cold water to the right temperature, sit the bucket on the roof of the van and have a perfect shower.
Total cost about $5.
The bucket was the rubbish bin when not used as a shower.

Every example of "Instant" hot water for showers that I have ever seen are failures either because the temperature is never right, the water flow is too low or they waste water.

Hi Keith we use the companion aquacube with an outside kitchen and shower tent. As ours is fairly new it works really well in fact my wife prefers it to using park facilities at present. Shower tent has small square pool in it with drain hose. Maybe check the pump and clean the filter to see if you can get a better flow or even raise the water tank. Cheers Stewart.

We do have an ensuite with fantastic flow through a 3 way Suburban heater - The major problem is when bush camping water is precious and gas refills not available - we only turn on 3 way heater 20mins prior to shower (saves gas) but the water wastage in caravans plumbing system is excessive, so we tend to boil water in a kettle, mix in bucket to get desired temperature and use a small battery operated Jackaroo submersible pump with hand held shower head.
It certainly isn't like standing under a waterfall but adequate for a rinse off and freshen up.
Of course unlike the OP we have the luxury of the vans system when in civilisation.
Like P&M's experience all of the portable stand alone heaters we have investigated are too cumbersome, heavy and troublesome to pack up and carry when on the move.

If the heater can supply 8 litres per minute does it have the capacity to heat the water or do you simply get more water at a lower temperature.

Our home instantaneous hot water has a flow rate of 4.5L per minute. 415v 3 phase, 18amps per phase.

That's enough water for us!

We don't use gas to heat our hot water for showers,we fitted a heat exchanger and pump in the tow vehicle to heat the water.

If you are near a river or creek just throw a long hose in the water,you can have a long hot shower till the cars fuel runs out.

Otherwise just fill a drum or bucket up and heat the water.We get 2 showers each out of a 20 litre container,and you charge your batteries at the same time.

PT, I certainly like this idea, it would appear to suit my requirements, on the farm. Would you please provide further details on; The actual pump used, heat exchange methodology - where/how is heat exchange interacting with engine?
