Good Morning all, I am in the process of removing my old Electrolux 3 way Caravan Fridge, I am tired of Fighting with it. I am replacing it with a 95 litre upright Brass Monkey branded Fridge. If you have any thoughts or experience with same I would love to hear them. However the reason for my contact is on advice as to how to best Mount the new fridge. It is about 100mm narrower the the Electrolux and it will have about 10 mm of space between the top of the fridge und the underside of the Bench Top above it.
I thought about putting a timber spacer on the top to stop it bouncing and squashing foam rubber or polystyrene in either side to stabilise it and add some extra insulation. Your Thoughts and Experience would be appreciated.
Thanks for that I intended to use polystyrene if I can get it in the correct thickness or foam rubber and just squash it is. Good thought about the Tech Corner Thanks
Hopefully your fridge has mounting holes in the bottom. If not attach a plate to the bottom of the fridge & attach that to a bracket mounted to vehicle.
Weaco fridges have brackets for their fridges to clip in. They are really well made & work brilliantly. I bought one for my fridge. I knew it would be too high for my situation but bought it for ideas. You could buy one of the Weaco mounting brackets & the 4 feet that come with it, screw them into a plate on the bottom of your fridge.
I manage to get my prototype bracket down to 6mm thick. The fridge has been in & out of it hundreds of times & has worked brilliantly.
Some ideas which might help for your situation.
Insulation on underside of boot floor.
Fridge just barely fits. Also rear handle had to be removed. (Cover off fridge)
Stainless steel guides I added which made all the difference clipping the fridge in place.
I used the feet which came with the Weaco bracket.
M4 taps. Use tapping fluid or you will break taps & dies.
I had cut a touch too much off the nylon spacers so added a stainless washer.

Sounds good ! But it is essential to find out where the hot condenser is situated. If it is not an external wire and tube grid on the back(like the old fridges), then it will be embedded in the side walls most likely. If this is the case you must leave a gap to allow the air to remove the heat by circulating up the sides. DO NOT PUT INSULATION THERE.
My suggestion is to run the fridge for a while and feel the sides, rear and the top when the compressor is running and feel where the hot areas are. Then leave these hot areas open to the air for cooling. I have a 95L upright 12V fridge in my MH(not Brass Monkey brand)and it works OK. It has the hot sides and they are open to the air. I have had it for a couple of years.
My tip is nothing to do with all that but the problem with stuff falling out the door when you open it after travelling. So I made an inner shield out of coreflute, lightweight hollow sales sign plastic sheet. I cut it to fit standing inside the door between the shelves and the door pockets when closed, and cut all the corners well back to allow the air to circulate to the door. It just sits there OK but stops the stuff on the shelves and the door pockets moving too much and falling out(on your feet !) when you open the door. We just sit it on the top when not travelling. Also I am not sure if yours has a door catch or just the magnetic seal. We use a bungy around the door to hold it shut securely when driving. Indeed I am going to make a latch to hold it, as the magnetic seal is not enough for driving with. I can tell you half a fridge of dairy and other stuff on the floor is no fun and makes for some irritation and use of crude words !

These are pictures from the Brass monkey site. This fridge will have the condencer built into the sides of the fridge. If built in i would be removing that slotted cover on the back, to allow some cooling for the compressor & its electronic module. A small computer fan in there would also help as these fridges are not really designed to be completley closed in.

Thanks DeeBee that Is a good thought. Just a wee bit concerned about the computer fan working @ 24 hours x 365 do you reckon there is any way of connecting it to the thermostat, so it only works when the fridge compressor is running. thanks Keith
This the one I'm using in my fridge. It is noisier than some of their other models, but in the scheme of things it is still a quiet fan. If it is at the back of the fridge it will be ok. It also has good pressure as well as volume & still only uses 1.2 watts.
Need a picture of the control box on the side of the compressor, as there should be terminals to connect a fan to that only runs when the compressor is running.

I have three 80mm Noctua fans running continuously for a decade in a 3.0kVA UPS & they are as quiet as a new one. You need to use quality fans with bearings.
It would be good if the fan came on only when the fridge is running. But if the fan is low enough wattage & it is a hot environment behind the fridge it may be worth having it run continuously.

If at all possible locate the fan so you can clean it. Maybe mount it on the end of something that can be pulled out. So it line up with ducting. You will be horrified at the amount of dust which builds up on fan blades.
