Border Closures and Delays

it may come to pass that the vaccine may not be the silver bullet we all hope for, but the next couple of months should tell .

are you not glad we live in Australia

dogbox you're right. Too many folks believe the vaccine will be the silver bullet.

I accept we need rules and restrictions. But they have to be 'reasonable' and most of all communicated to the population in such away that the populations understands the 'why'. So far many rules and regulations, like masks when out in the middle of your farm, don't win over folks. Sending hay via planes etc etc etc.

Shut the borders to hot spots by all means. But first decide on a definition of what constitutes a hot spot. State politicians can't even agree on a hot spot definition. And then they wonder why there is all the confusion.

How about Qantas planning flights from UK & America from July 1. Nothing but push, push, push. Self interest is the underlying cause of most of our woes.

msg I would be waiting to see what the conditions are first. It may not be up to QANTAS but rather the federal government that make the final decision. Alan Joyce has already made a few statements that haven't come to fruition.

beside isn't stopping the flights 'self interest'?

bgt, If Alan joyce makes a few statements often enough its called putting the suggestion in peoples minds that will become normal and thus accepted. The federal government has always chased the votes and will decide on that basis. What is wrong with self interest that is for the greater good rather than an individual's pockets.

msg I have no issue with your assumptions. I'm just pointing out that it's not Joyces decisions to make. He may wish but at the end of the day a responsible fed government will make the final decision. We will see who wins on this one. My money is on the government.

Joyce has played the situation.

He sacks thousands of workers and this causes any govt to bend over backwards.
Unfortunately it what Joyce is doing to our PM while he is bent over that is the problem.

The devil is in the detail.
Read it here......

As I said in another post in another topic, it is wealth before health that is the problem.

Read the detail in the news report above. I just dont understand why our leaders turn a blind eye to outsourcing these jobs to a cheaper labour source.

Rob

Just ask yourself how much are they gaining.   PM?   Gets the approval of all those wishing to travel overseas. And there are many of them for many different reasons.   eg: all those business people exporting Australian resources and stripping them from Australians and making heaps of personal profit.   Very powerful voters and very good for the PM.   This seems to be supported by the fact that the ones who lost out most to COVID are those small business really making a living the hard way.  Not enough clout to worry about.  In fact, it would be better to get rid of these all together and make every business in Australia part of a large global business.

It is with regret that what you say is so true. It is a political and economical game of drafts or chess.

Our youngest son and family arrived ex Melbourne to Brisbane on 31st Dec.

They had to go for testing and then back to our place for a period of isolation until they received the results of the tests. This also meant that we had to also isolate for that same period.

Thankfully 24 hours later the test results arrived and all were negative.

We expected that the negative results would be just that.

So all is clear for them to fly back to Melbourne around the 15th Jan.
