The prices they are quoting would ring alarm bells with me. A Jaycee Silverline for $17000 when the market price is more in the region of North of $40000. I would be asking where's the catch.

When we were looking for a van to upgrade from a camper trailer found what looked like a suitable one on Gumtree. Located in Sydney it was close enough to us in Canberra to check it out. It was also several thousand dollars below the going price for that model and year.

On contacting the 'seller' was informed that the van was in fact located in Perth. But he was willing to deliver it from Perth to Canberra for $100 - yes, one hundred dollars! Also, the seller just happened to be on an oil platform off the WA north coast so was unable to meet us face to face.

When I went to report the ad to Gumtree as an obvious scram found it had already been removed. Whether it was because he had found a 'sucker' or someone else had already reported it I don't know.

Also, the van in the advertisement was an actual one in Adelaide - registration number and model checked out on the REVS web site. Hope the owner didn't get caught up in the scam.

Anyway, later another van was also listed on Gumtree, this time at Nowra. We contacted the seller, visited him and checked the van out. It suited us, we agreed on a price and we bought it. The thing about the second van was that we met the seller face to face at their address. Nobody should buy anything - car, furniture, caravan, whatever, sight unseen on the Internet.

Thanks for putting that up, Cuppa

It looks like a fairly reputable website, and it is still up and running, and probably catching more people

The only faults which rang any alarm bells for me were:-

  • The price of the motorhomes and caravans, which seemed very low
  • The manufacture in Campbelltown VIC, while the showrooms are in Ryan QLD, which seems to be a suburb of Mount Isa

I have often thought, that the easiest way to stop scammers, is for the banks to be responsible for the money it transfers from your account

For example, if I purchase, or transfer money, through Ebay, and goods are not delivered, then Ebay will refund me, if it was a scam

The simple tick is for one to physically look at the VIN number & while at is look at anything that was not photographed.

It might cost you a round trip, but that is a lot cheaper than loosing tens of thousands of dollars!

If you buy something with a credit card you may apply for a chargeback if you don't get it. (may depend on card and/or bank, but I've got money back through my bank before)

I knew it was a scam but i like to play these scumbags by the way acecaravancampers.com & AUMOTORHOMES are one in the same i emailed them and said i had a friend who lived in Minto Nsw and was going to have a look at a motorhome they had for sale then they emailed me back and told me that particular motorhome was in Derby Wa i said no problem my brother works in Broom and could come and check it the next day for me !!!

Website then disappeared and won't return my emails ! LOL

I checked both of their address they gave me on Google Earth the one in Campbelltown Nsw was a disused storage yard and the one in Derby WA was Red Dust and salt bush !
