Gas oven temp

Can someone tell me what number ( 1 - 6 ) on our gas oven to bake a cake? Our grand daughter wants to make

one for a surprise. It is for her mum's 50th birthday( Fri 13th ) & see wants it to be a surprise.

It is a Newhome oven.

Thanks

Dont think you will get an accurate response here because your oven will probably be different to someone elses . My approach would be to get your hands on a infared thermometer and check yours at the different number setting .that way you will know for sure.

Most are not very hot, so put it up pretty high - 5 or 6 and watch closely.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi Tiger5,
Stufe °C Celsius °F Fahrenheit
Stufe 1 150 °C 300 °F
Stufe 2 160 °C 320 °F
Stufe 3 180 °C 355 °F
Stufe 4 200 °C 390 °F
Stufe 5 220 °C 430 °F
Stufe 6 240 °C 465 °F
Stufe 7 260 °C 500 °F
Stufe 8 280 °C 535 °F

I have never cooked with those numbers but usually cook a cake about 180c .....so if you set the oven between 2 and 3 hopefully will work . Good luck to your grand-daughter be a lovely surprise for her mum . All the best

Caravan gas ovens are almost hopeless for baking they take forever to heat up temp is uneven in cooking area, Some of the newer fan-forced ones are almost tolerable. Experiment with some scones to ascertain cooking times.

Back of oven is often hotter than front

I would suggest you ring the oven manufacturer or buy an oven thermostat. Have fun cooking.
