Hi all, has anybody had experience towing with the Mazda CX-5 with the 2.5lt engine? I was thinking of getting a 2.5 turbo but had it on a test and with a gentle foot it used 14lts to the 100km towing a light van (1200kg max)
The difference in the fuel use is of more interest to me than power. I had a Mazda 2.2lt diesel but not using it anywhere enough caused problems with DPF and other things so a diesel is out.
I like the Mazda because of the gearbox.....I hate those CVT's with a passion. Input from owners or users of the 2.5lt appreciated.
Before we bought our Santa Fe we test drove a CX5 and was shocked to be told by the salesperson there is not enough room under the floor for a full sized spare and if you needed to fit the space saver spare you are not allowed to tow. Great idea, just unhook and leave your trailer beside the road. We do not often tow with my daily drive but like to know it is capable if necessary. Landy

G'day Harry,
Have you posed the same question on the Mazda CX-5 forum?
You are more likely to get more answers there for specific car queries than here - I found that in the past with the NP Forum, currently with the Isuzu Forum.
Here we are a mixed bunch with all sorts/types of vehicles & caravans.
Landy's answer sort of indicates this car is not suitable for towing a van. What does the Owner's Hand Book say? That should be your guide.
A friend used to tow his HD 4.5m alum boat with a diesel CX-5 but it developed a noise in the rear & not being mechanically minded, he wasted no time getting rid of it for a Hyundai!
