Going away with a group of ladies, one of the stops being the caravan park at Crystal Creek. Wondering if the road up to both Little Crystal Creek and Big Crystal Creek and Paluma is ok.
I do have a 4WD. And if the water is easily accessible (due to a few oldies). Be nice now.
The road up to Paluma is a typical mountain tourist road. I've done the drive dozens of times in all types of vehicles. Past Paluma, the road is unsealed from memory. Even with my dodgy leg, I can get to the creeks for a paddle. Check out the Tea House too.
I do not have a great head for heights, and found the Paluma road an unpleasant experience. Great scenery and views as one got higher, and it was great in the villages and walk areas up the top. But the trip back down again, on winding narrow road, with few barriers between road edge and a very long drop down, was the stuff of my nightmares.
HaHa wendyv. Know exactly what you mean. Looking out of the motorhome passenger window and not seeing the road didn't fill me with confidence even though I know my husband is a good driver. But like you said it is a lovely area scenery wise. Cheers.
Hi can Do,
I heard recently that the road was closed due to maintenance requirements (people who live at Paluma & do shift work in Townsville were most upset).
I'd suggest to contact the Townsville City Council to find the status of the main road + the road to the dam (that can be rough if it's open.
Take care as I've had some close shaves with idiots who think they either own the road or at the only ones on the road at the time!

No worries Warren. Easily done. Thanks to all for your input. The posts above are why I dont ask the caravan park as Im sure they would say "no worries" or good road. Prefer to hear from us Grey Nomads. Thanks all.
