ACT Residents allowed in QLD

dabbler wrote:

I'll admit to using the term "whinger" but made not reference to where they might be located (Qld has it's fair share too). It was in response to a post in another thread regurgitating the furphy that the monied and connected buy their way into Qld avoiding quarantine. I've also stated on this forum and others that (i) Qld could have handled some issues better; (ii) NSW has created more issues in the Qld/NSW bubble by acting politically; and (iii) Qld is acting no differently to every other state barr NSW and Vic. It isn't about Qld being "special", it's about a 2 states not playing the same tune as the rest.

Dabbler you mean that 60% of the Australian population are not playing the same tune as the other 40%. if I remember correctly when this crisis started there was a national advisary committee set up by the PM with representatives from all states and we were all supposedly following their recomendations. The smaller states  and territories decided to go against the advice and close their borders (which was their perogitive) but dont suggest that we were the ones who caused us to get out of tune. The complaints coming from the NSW govt. were around the hardships being caused by the closure to our northern border communities, I guess if thats what you call acting politically then our premier is no doubt guilty as charged. Im also pretty sure that if the shoe was on the other foot you would expect your own premier to act in a similar way.

Tell me Angie do Qid taxi drivers already maintain a log because I cant seem to find it in the govts taxi operators covid controls ? In fact the controls seem to be pretty much the same as what is written in the nsw govt.s  point to point controls. If Im wrong and Qld do already use one then I guess that I will just have to accept that we are not as smart as you guys.

No BB, I mean 3 jurisdictions from 8 aren't playing the same tune. Qld has a cluster because 3 people lied, so how was would it be if there was unfettered movement.NSW residents close to Qod border have been disadvantaged and disenfranchised because NSW didn't believe in restricting cross border movement. NSW has clusters because they never implemented cross-border restrictions until it was too late. As for what was agreed in a national Covid-19 cabinet, clearly is wasn't unanimous.

Posted too early ... Simple fact, forget about incoming passengers (I agree those figures lead to misleading interpretation) look at community transmission. Restricted movement, most easily achieved through border restrictions, is proven to reduce community transmission. I'm not concerned about people in quarantine, in fact I can see the AFL quarantine resort from my house, I'm concerned about community transmission. As should every Australian.

BB,

The one we caught three weeks ago to go to a venue for an evening meal did.

We had to use the sanitiser and fill out a passenger log both ways.

Angie

OK Dabbler keep in mind that 3 of those 8 juristrictions have a population which is less than where I live in greater Newcastle but lets count them all as being equaly weighted. There are still around 28,000 Australians that need to be repatriated and accomodated during their 14 days in isolation so that means our 8 juristrictions should get 3500 each. Sydney has increased their intake to 3000/week so if flights are made available then we should be able to get our lot into isolation in around 8 days - what about our fellow juristrictions what's their plan ?  I can probably tell you what it's going to be and unfortunately for us that means NSW is going to be playing a different tune again but I guess in this case that's OK.

Out of a population of just under 8 million NSW reported a total of 31 cases over the last 7 days 20 of them were from OS travellers, 11 were traced back to a known source and zero came from an unknown source these numbers don't necessarily reflect the doomsday scenerio currently being painted. I am not naive enough to think that the number of cases couldn't suddenly take off  (like potentially with this taxi driver) but I have confidence our authorites will be straight onto tracking and isolating them. People in NSW have as much concern about covid as everyone else across Australia but personally I've yet to run into anyone I'd class as being distraught, those who have lost loved ones or know someone in intensive care would have good reason to feel like that.

Angie I guess you proved it we are not as smart as Qlders.  Right now I personally wouldn't get into a cab or use any Uber service but plenty of people like my daughter seem to have no problem with it.  Cleaning and disinfecting vehicles at the end of the shift is already in the govt guidelines and is standard practice for most point to point operators. The problem is even doing this you can only be sure that the vehicle will be virus free until a driver or a passenger gets in - between trips drivers should also be wiping down and disinfecting surfaces.
