Well, how about that………..

A thread similar to this may have been started before, if so, my apologies but no harm in starting again - bit of fun.

In 2016 we were on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, driving to our B&B for the night in a little village called Finsbay.   Driving along the scenery was nothing but hills consisting of rocks, hundreds and hundreds of them, and nothing else, no trees, grass, nothing.   I remarked to my wife that if one didnt know where one was you would think you were another planet.

At dinner that night at the B&B I told the owner what I had said about the scenery and he gave a little chuckle and said Would you believe this is where they filmed the Jupiter scenes for the movie 2001:Space Odessey

I thought to myself well, how about that..

Anyone else had a similar experience.

Sometimes driving in the mountains of Oman and the UAE I got the feeling that you could be on another planet especially where there was no vegetation unfortunately I don't have a photo but this one approaching the mountains gives you some idea.

I couldn't believe just how Desolate those places are, even right to the waters' edge.  I'm afraid I couldn't live in a place like that.  I love my Trees and Greenery too much.  Mind you, they have some wonderful Souks.  [Markets.]  If I remember correctly, the one in Oman, was 900 years old when I saw it, and that was around 10 years ago I think.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Sheba you are talking about the oldest souk in the arab world which is on the harbour front in Muscat I spent many hours exploring the winding alleys and shops in that place especially after my wife came over. I remember it was our ruby wedding aniversary and I bargained for a nice pair of gold earings embedded with rubies in the gold souk. I used to prefer the one that was further inland outside the old fort in Nizwa. I loved the 9 months I spent living and working in Oman and they are some of the friendliest people you could ever meet. The landscape is breathtaking too bad the temperature in the gulf countries in the summer is so oppresive. I thought living in the Pilbara back in the early eighties was bloody hot but it had nothing on that place - maybe Im just getting too old.

Perhaps should have explained myself a little better - doesnt have to be what I was talking about (another planet etc) - can be anything eg thinking about someone you have not seen for a long time and then bumping into them the next day. Anything, cheers.

Welllll, we were atop the canyon of Kings Canyon - right where those stripy rock formations are and making noises re the old advert of the Sheriff etc. for a Cornflakes advert on TV.
You may remember "Flush é'm out Sheriff". When another rubber Necker nearby laughed out loud and answered in an American accent about how come we knew about that advert?
He was on a "Whistle Stop" Bus Tour of Australia.
Apparently the ad was quite world wide. Just looked at each and said "How about that"
