You say 300 amps. I think you mean 300 watts. That is actually 1.25 amps, but it will pull a bit more when starting up. A 1000 watt Honda generator should easily handle that load. Be warned however, that an aircon with this capacity will not be as good as a more powerful unit. it will be OK if you sit in front of it. I personally don't know of this brand, but we have used a portable refrigerated aircon unit is a house before and it worked brilliantly. The only thing was that the condensate bottle had to be emptied regularly, but it was a small price to pay for the comfort it offered.

Yes sorry 300 watts ,
my other option is a Honda 2200i and hope it will run the sparrow mk 4 air con in the van,
Has anyone used the Honda 2200i for a similar air con with out any dramas ?

Hi Peter,
I don't have the Sparrow, I have an Ibis 3, but the Honda 220i runs it well when an cheap eBay 2.7 KVA couldn't. I suggest you do what I did - take your van to the local Honda dealer and ask them to hook their demo machine to your van. That way you'll be sure it will work.

I have one.   I get to use it when the missus lets me.   I have run it on a 600 Watt inverter, a 1000 Watt Petrol generator, and 240.   Remember it is not intended to cool a space, rather it directs cool air at you.   I poke it in a bed tent on hot nights in the campervan and it has been good for that.

It might only use 300watts but it only has an output of 800 - 1200 watts, also to achieve that it is using moisture out of the air to cool the condenser, which is ok in principle, but the air conditioner's exhaust from the condenser should be piped outside or you will get a more humid environment. Such small air conditioners are really only suitable for reducing humidity, & only if plumbed in properly.

I have an old Dimplex 3.5kw RC portable unit at home & plumbed it in properly like a fully ducted system with dust filters on both internal & external air intake & it works really well. Before building it in it was useless. Now actually on the second unit, found a second hand one, first one was new. This setup has been a temporary measure for 15 years until we can work out where to install a split system's external unit.

Junk, IMHO, and at 50db noise level you would not hear yourself think.
Cheers,

Noise, that's another issue, without thorough acoustic insulation they are too noisy. I've used acoustic batts, acoustic foam & mass loaded vinyl (the old stuff with lead). I would call the noise level as fair with the work I have done.
