Reported in yesterday's Townsville Bulletin - the council is introducing a booking system to ensure people move on after their prescribed time. They have deferred promised fees for 12 months.
It's been welcomed by the boss of the Australian Caravan Club.

Locals who live at/near the beaches get sick of the mess that is often left, not being able to access the beaches with their families - parking is at a premium at some & some campers overstaying their 48 hours.
What always confused me was why did the proprietor of the Bluewater Caravan Park open up years after the free camp was well & truly established just down the road. I've rarely seen that park filled anywhere near to capacity. They do get some "permanents".

I agree about some overstaying the 48 hours, I have known a few that did that but got caught out in the end.
When I was thinking of giving living in Townsville a trial run when I was there this year, I was thinking of going to the Bluewater CVP after staying at my daughters for a while to see how it worked out, but the plan didn't go ahead. Thanks CV19!
I have now put that plan to rest anyway.
Keep Safe out there.

We were at Bluewater RV park last week when the rangers came to explain the new booking system. Only 15 sites can be used by single vans now so where everyone else will go who knows.
Its such a shame but understandable that they want to know who is there due to Covid.
We also thought 48 hours too short. Doesnt give you time to see and do all that is there.
The CPs are far too expensive for us.
