Lightweight 3-step ladder

I have been recommended to purchase a lightweight 3-step ladder, eg so I can get up high enough to attach the 2 side privacy panels.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a brand/model that would be suitable?   I would like it to be small enough to fit into the back of my Land Cruiser 200 series.

Thanks and Cheers.

I have a 5 step  one I purchased from a caravan sales in Bundaberg, they are light and easy to store.

Morning Rex,

I have a 5 step, step ladder and it is very light weight and takes 150kg on board. I also have a 3mt telescopic ladder so I can get to the top of the aluminium teepee. Also takes 150kg on board. Although these days I should find someone that can get on that for me. Both from evilbay.

I have two types, one being a square box type aka squeeze box. While it folds down to nothing - one person I met kept his in a pipe on the draw bar - I find it very wobbly. OK to use though with care.
The other one is a three step plus platform from Aldi for $50. Lightweight, very strong and stable. I carry it strapped to the front A frame.
Aldi have them on special every couple of months.

I bought a 4 step squeeze box one a few months ago.

I consider the squeeze box ladder unstable and awkward due to the narrow steps plus heavier than the 3 step standard aluminium.

Going back to the 3 step standard ladder in the van. I will use the squeeze box around the house for small jobs.

My opinion. And my wife's!!biggrin

Dick.

Thanks folks. I have emailed a few of the retailers about the length when folded as I hope to be able to fit it into the back of my Land Cruiser. I'll check out Aldi tomorrow as we now have one in Rockhampton.
Cheers, Rex

I am with you here little dick - "I consider the squeeze box ladder unstable and awkward due to the narrow steps plus heavier than the 3 step standard aluminium."
As I got older and knees played up, I put it aside and take a Gorilla Ladder which is about the same weight any way. Now we have a new Awning I can work from the ground, other than the wind anti flap set up. I am much more confident of doing the work.

Thanks Mobi. The squeeze box ladders are enticing because they pack up so well, but I think I prefer stability over that.

x2 for the txp ladders.

My boot has a dividing panel separating the gas cylinders from the rest of the caboodle - I cut an elongated hole in it for the ladder in its bag to fit in. Is about 1.8m x 125mm x 75mm if I recall & is light.

Stability is great! Unless the user is a heaviweight. I weight around 95kg - have no problems.

Thanks Warren. The ebay ad says 120 cm for the 3 STEP A-Frame
Max Load 120kg
Weight 4.4KG
Closed 120 x 12 x 8cm
So that is really compact. Looks good.

Thanks Travelyounger. I actually bought one of those yesterday! But it doesn't fit in the back of the Land Cruiser, so I either have to store it in the back seat of the LC or use up some precious space in the tunnel storage area in the caravan.
So I am looking for something a bit more compact. I may or may not keep it, as it is a good size for chores around the house.

At only 2kg could you strap it to the spare tyre on the back of the van with a couple of load binders . a bike lock cable would then secure it from sticky fingers .

I have this ladder and that's exactly what I do. Use it all the time because my mum passed on her "Duck's Disease" genes on to me.

I purchased a two step Bailey brand plastic ladder from the green shed. It is ideal for setting up our awning. It is rated at 100KG is very stable and folds down to fit in a Storage area under our bed but accessible from outside.

Thanks Geeco, I'll check that out. We have borrowed a 2-step ladder for our trip to Agnes Water (leaving tomorrow) so we'll see how that goes. It should be tall enough for setting up the awning.
