If you are travelling west on the Capricorn Highway in Central Queensland and you wish to stop at the freedom camping area in Duaringa, AND if you need an 8.5 kg. Swap and go at the local roadhouse, check the price first; we paid $45.00 and the Truma scan gauge read half full further down the road. Not casting aspersions, just saying check price first!!!!!!Q!
It pays to check to see if your gas cylinders are MT or close to it first. Hot water is a good test.
Of course the roadhouse had to pay freight on the cylinders - often expensive to small places.

$45ea was what we paid to fill two 9kg bottles at Bourketown Qld in 2015 as the alternative was an exchange cylinder at $60ea at Gregory River Qld. Would have paid the $60 if I could fill my almost new bottle at Gregory River, rather than a swap - so took the 80klm round trip to Bourketown instead.

Yeah mate - out in western Qld the LPG prices can be a bit steep ~ we've paid over $50 for a 9kg refill in those towns where there is only one supplier > and swap and go generally are 20% higher than refills due to transport costs of large numbers of empty cylinders to & fro the refill centre (as Warren points out)
I do not know anything of the Truma scan gauge - have tried hot water / very cold water etc and find it a bit problematic. We use the regular bathroom scales- yes it means disconnecting the bottle first, but the loss of a tiny amount of gas overcomes the loss of 1/2 to 1kg via a refill error when the bottle is not completely MT
Over the 16yrs we've been long-term on the road we have never used swap n go - we always refill our bottles and at the 10-yr mark had them recertified. 2-bottles being recertified together & refilled was cheaper than buying 2-new bottles, and as said above, why pay 10-20% more for each refill over 16 yrs??
Most places in out back are pricy . Why I replaced 3 way fridge and added extra solar . The two extra panels was about the price of four refills !!! Have options to cook. Then just lpg for hot water . 9kg bottle lasts much longer .
