Hi all, couple of newbies here. Thought we better introduce ourselves, we are the Allens. We have already posted & received great information already, what a great forum this is. We are not really grey nomads yet but love the thought of road touring. We have a 79 series & an old Bubble caravan, that we have been rebuilding on & off for the last 10 years lol. I know a long time! But work gets in the way. Gone overboard on the build with drawbar extension, chassis strengthened, double axle, major gut & rebuilt interior. Like I said overboard! but I have OCD. She looks like nothing else out there. I call her 'Shaggy', as the whole roof & front has been covered with grey heavy duty marine carpet Yes weird but gives a little more insulation, stops stone chips, covers the dents in the ol girl & I reckon looks unreal. Anyway, we are moving to Tassie to start a new life & build a house on our 5 acres in southern Tassie. Always loved Tassie & now we own a piece of it. We both have permanent jobs down there already, so that is a big plus in this current situation. We will be posting more stuff on our journey if anyone is interested? Maybe look out for us on the road, Silver 79 series & Shaggy, she is one of a kind. Thanks for having us on here. The Allens.

Welcome Allens, Can't wait to see the van on the road somewhere, carpet unless you have fun vacuuming seems to be a strange option - what with dust impregnation and trapped water increasing your weights to whatever. Welcome. It's great to see someone putting in the effort modifying & upgrading things. You may be interested in this thread. Not only is it good acoustically but the thermal gains are very worthwhile, more so for Tasmania (was down there last year).

Lol good one PossumIts plastic synthetic carpet so dosen't hold water, dust isn't a problem, you just jet wash it. Bugs could be an issue getting trapped but they should dry up eventually & a jet wash should get em out. This stuff is used on hundreds of pontoons all over the country so its pretty indestructible. I think the benfits outway the cons but each to their own. I like to be different to the crowd. Sure won't miss it on the road lol.
