RE:

Nothing to make of it is there? Merely confirmation that the personal/family business he has been touting on these forums for years does actually exist. (not that I care that he, like many others, use forums to advertise their businesses if allowed by forum owners, just that he kept denying any connection)

Hi smile

Well good luck to him. He was having problems with his eyes when last on here so I hope he has not lost his sight that would be very bad. He has a lot of knowledge, just the presentation of it on the forums is problematical.

I thought that T1 Terry, had plenty of Lithium experience/knowledge, compared to myself (a layman)

His arguments/bantering with other knowledgable forum members, did not worry me, as it all went right over my head

I for one, hope that he comes back to the forum

I notice while surfing the net, that lead acid battery price seems to have stayed the same, while lithium battery price have come down significantly

I for one, will be looking very closely at lithium batteries, when (hopefully in the far distant future), I replace my AGM batteries

Hi Tony smile

Yes the LA price has not dropped as I see it too. But the lithium drop-in batteries have become almost affordable now.wink They have a full battery management system built-in so should in theory be user proof. That will be revealed in time as there are cheap copies, which I believe do not deliver the promised protection or even the promised rated capacity.

We wait and observe and see who delivers the goods just like we did with AGMs. aww But AGMs must drop at some point so we may win there too.

I wondered what had happened to T1 Terry.

Like Tony, some of his points were over me but I'm certain he knew what he was talking about. He was along the lines of another "character" (from Yeppoon) but more acceptable.

Isn't "Mature Age" great! I only need a new skeleton & a few other new bits. Still going back to the mid 60s, often a person didn't live past 2 years of retirement (then 65 years)! i went to my doctor a few weeks ago complaining of noisy knees, squeaking hips (both replaced) & a painful, clunking right shoulder. The doc asked "What do you want us to do?" Knees get replaced only with pain (my first & most wrecked hip gave me no pain, just a permanent limp) & shoulders - "Grin & bear it, perhaps physio."
Still we throw batteries out when they are too old to work!

T1 was banned from here a while ago now, apparently he offended one of the 'know it all's' once too often.

As far as the business is concerned, he never hid the fact that he was involved in a business venture, but he maintained it was his wife's business.
It was her money and her venture, Terry is not a legal partner in it just an employee.
Margaret of course built the business using Terry's knowledge.

If you knew the man and what he has been through you might have been more forgiving of his enthusiasm.
But the fact that others wouldn't agree and continually sniped at him was enough for him to give up on trying to assist - which he always did freely and with logical reasoning.
However you have lost all of that now.

As for me, I only come for the jokes section.

Cheers,

T1s web site is pretty informative.
I particularly liked his comments on how to upscale Double an existing battery bank By placing new cells in between the old cells .
Assume that all Cells are of the same spec.

Jaahn, his eyes have gotten a lot worse and in a very short time frame.

He is now getting weekly injections into his eyes to try and retain what he has left.

That's very painful, my mum had them, was down for the count for a day every week after with eyes closed. But she needed to see.

 Hi smile

Thanks for telling me that, I am sorry to hear it and wish him well. It would be a bad blow to loose your sight for sure. Worse perhaps if your mind is still really active and wanting to do things. no I guess the forums are far from his ability currently.

He is still active on 1 forum, not every day of course but most weeks he is still doing something.

As I said earlier, he is banned from here and he won't be back.

If you wish to know where he is active send me a PM.

Cheers,

Hi El Gringo

I have just sent you a PM

I would like to know, the forum where T1 Terry still contributes to

I like to think that I have an open mind, and wish to learn about lithium batteries, set-ups, etc

 Hi Jaahn

Thanks for that info

I was actually unaware that there was any confuffle, between AGM and Flooded Cell, lead acid batteries

I only started to look at RV type batteries around 2011

T1 Terry, if you happen to look at this post, or if you are someone who is close to T1 Terry, who can pass on this message

All the best for your future health, Terry

I drive past Terry's place of business regularly, didn't know he was unwell. He is sorely missed for his expertise, a great pity the dinosaurs managed to make him extinct. Techies corner hardly worth reading these days.

I lack knowledge in the area of solar power and battery chemistries, so I always appreciated Terry's input and his willingness to answer questions. I was surprised to read that he had been banned. I know that he often upset people with his crusade-like advocacy of PWM over MPPT solar charging, but I never saw any serious personal animosity resulting from this.

Australia may now be leading other world players in EV battery R&D. We have been instrumental in developing Lithium Ion batteries for electric vehicles. Now there is a new player in the field.. Lithium Sulphur batteries. Back in January of this year Scientists at Monash University claim to have developed the worlds most efficient lithium-sulfur battery. They say the new device could enable an electric vehicle to drive more than 1,000km on a single charge and power a Smartphone for five days on a single charge.

The new manufacturing process behind the battery technology for which the researchers have an approved, filed patent consists of re-configuring the design of sulfur cathodes to tolerate higher stress loads without a decrease in overall capacity or performance.

For those interested. Terry is still able to do some work and Margaret now does a lot of it. One remarkable lady.
Most of you would have no idea of the time Terry spent reading and answering post on here and other forums(He is a one finger typist LOL).
Really his friends, me included have been trying to get him to give forums away for a few years as it always was effecting him while trying to protect the name of the battery technology and also stopping people from making stupid mistakes that we now see quite often but keep quiet.
You have lost a lot of knowledge as we have moved on quite a bit and what we do now has changed a lot, but due to the heckling that info is available to a select few on a locked forum so the general public are no longer privileged to the experiments and information as we move forward.
Not to many business will let you work with them so when you job is finished, if you wish, you know your system inside out and how it works and can develop your system as it is built to your requirements.
Many systems finish different to the original specifications.
He works for a lot less than most here would have in their business and is honest with the hours he actually works. Actually seen Marg charge a lot less hours than done many times if Terry is having problems with his sight or headaches.
Been close to them both since I bought the first batteries and we developed the very first setup in my bus and now have similar in my house boat. I have spend many days helping where I can but my eyes are worse than Terry's. LOL
Sorry to say that you have lost a good person who was only trying to help but I feel he is better of not spending his productive time trying to help every one out.
They still get a lot of request for help on their web site and there is a lot of good info there as well but don't expect a description on how he does his setup as many have requested.
