Caravan insurance

Not sure if I am in the right place here but here goes anyway..

Received my insurance renewal notice today and looks like the thieves are try to claw back what they lost in the bushfires and floods etc.

Premium now $959.00 up from $833.00 and we also have a lay up clause for 5 months of the year plus they lowered the agreed value by $12.000 And we cant even use the thing.

Where to from here I dont know but it looks like I will have to spend some time on the phone.

Neil

And Neil go through the fine print carefully as while they may be saying "Gimmee, gimmee your money", they may have clauses to reduce the amount in case of a claim.

It depends on where you travel to - if you're a bitumen traveller, you won't need the "Rough road travel" policy.

Do an Advanced Search on the Forum - this issue was on not so long ago. A lot of members recommend CIL - I'm with RACQ & not had any issues.

I just reinsured with SGIO (Western Australia), as Gundog has quite rightly suggested; the fine print needs to be read carefully to fully understand what you are covered for.

SGIO are excellent with their claims process.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Hetho.

I would only Insure for Agreed Value, on another forum a member asked an Insurer what was the Market Value for his $67K Caravan and was told $36K needless to say he went elsewhere.

Years ago, I was involved with the purchase of Grand Daughters $5000 first Car, Insurance for an 18 year old was $1800, for $5000 agreed value, Father got a quote for $990 Market value from another company, I range up the Market value company a number of times and finally got their Market value of max $2200 and min $1600 ( and a quote for $770). Being involve in GD's driver training and not sure of the future, I helped out with the $1800 premium for a couple of years with no accidents.

But I agree that Market Value is cheaper if you do not write off your vehicle /caravan.

And do not count on ( subconsciously) it wont happen to me. I wrote off Margaret's Yaris, stopping for a Koala and the person behind ran into us and totalled our car. even with agree value with low KM we could not get a replacement car of the same value( did not include the $1500 of options and GST in the Agreed value Insurance figure)

I have mention this before..

We have all of Insurance policy with QBE. Have done so for past 15 years or more.

We insure the van for the winter months only, as the van sits at home during the long hot summers in Queensland.

If we do need to take the van on the road  during the out of Insurance period, a phone call to QBE. and have not had an issue with QBE.

Works for us.

Ring Elders insurance, ask for David. 0896908600, I know he has done quite a few vans this year.

Renewed ours last month. Originally with RAA (SA) as thought it best to have van and car same, but last year swapped to COTA as was considerably cheaper and pay by month is no extra. Only for seniors. This year it was $741 on insured value of about $57600 with $250 excess. COTA is the broker, the actual insurer is Allianz but if you go direct with them the monthly option is a lot dearer.
