The last one, "what a mallet", brought back memories. We called them Mauls. Can clearly remember making them with my Dad - head out of mallee with heated (red hot) ring over each face quickly dunked in oil to quench and shrink, handle was a native timber of which I have forgotten the name and they were used for splitting mallee stumps with great big wedges.

 Ooo! DO you think I am that old????? The main emotion I have in Museums around the country and Outback is - Wow, I remember using that, or I made one like that etc. I am just 71 but feel proud of Australia's developments  just in my life time.
