Just beside myself

had surgery on my leg thursday at the toowoomba hospital. Discharged and drove over 2 hours back to wondai. On heavy medication. Drive was horrendous for me. Have rheumatoid arthritis as well. Got home into bed can barely move. Woke to a knock at the door. Vice presodent tells us to packup and get out today. Says we can go to murgon which is even further away from toowoomba hospital which i need to go back to in 2 weeks. Rang toowoomba showgrounds, will help if they can but even if we can get in there i am not well enough to travel and towing a caravan will be longer than just driving a car. I am in pain, crying and just done in.

Is it possible to get an air b&b in toowoomba for a while. Maybe  one where you can park your van.

Rocket, there are a few open for essential travellers/ living on the road, just go thru the list and look at Southern Queensland Country. Good luck you will find a place.

Provided you have no choice, just stay where you are, move the problem back to them. The authorities are just making things up as they go, full timers / itinerants / etc are slipping through the net.
Eventually the legislation will be adjusted to suit, in the mean time, if the council wants to kick you out then the council can get the police / towies/ to evict you.
And you can explain the situation and no one will evict you.

If you are too unwell to travel, just stay where you are. Don't get into a yelling match with them. Just explain you are too unwell to move today and you will see what accommodation is available in the next few days when you are feeling better.

They let you in, they can figure it out.

As said above, be very polite but firm. If they say they will call the police, that's ok by you, be polite. If the police do come explain why you can't move but follow their directions. Ask they where some emergency accommodation is.

Be polite to everyone at all costs.

Write times & details in a diary or anywhere for that matter of entire situation as it unfolds before you foget just in case things get nasty.

Hello everyone,, i have taken all your advice onboard. Here is an update. Toowoomba showgrounds has offered us a place and woodford showgrounds has offered us a place for 2 weeks and kingaroy showgrounds and twin gums caravan park at nanango have said we can stay too. We have decided on nanango caravan park. Since this morning, i have rung south burnett council, police, covit hotline, qld health and more i cannot remember n some more than once and all igot was the run around. Since then, vice president of wondai showgrounds came back to us and has mellowed a bit, saying we can stay till monday. my accident happened in their showgrounds and i am too unwell to move So we will stay until i feel i can move to nanango caravan park. I am on morphine and have had a metal plate and bolts put in my leg with a cast Over it .
a big thankyou to everyone and kingaroy showgrounds and woodford showgrounds and toowoomba showgrounds and twin gums

caravan park.

N whenarewe there, thanks for that advice, i will be documenting everything.

When you get over this hiccup have a chat to your local lawyer. He will tell you all about public liability insurance and why places all have it to cover themselves when someone injures themsel through no fault of their own.  He will also explain to you your remedies when you are injured as a result of an unsafe property.

Talk to a lawyer about it, no one else.

Trust me...you know the rest.

Hi rocket I hope it all works out. Just for others in such predicaments just remember that authorities like local laws officers and police when they issue fines, are at the beck and call of the magistrate. Imagine going to court and explaining the situation to him/her about your hospital stay, pain, difficulties finding suitable place to camp. Under the current situation Id suggest some sympathy would be forthcoming. If we didnt have our block of land wed be camping on the roadside.

 G'day Rocket.

First I concur with DMaxer quote. You seem to have a good case here.

Even the Nanango show grounds are a lengthy travel to Toowoomba.

We have free Ambulance service here in Queensland, but they generally will take you to the nearest hospital which aside from the small hospital in Nanango it would be Kingaroy.

Rocket Have you tried to contact Oakey Showgrounds. Ok the then travel is about 30 minutes to the Toowoomba Hospital.  Give the lady Judith a call and see what happens. Just a thought mate.

Link is

We all pray that all works out ok for you Rocket.

Kind Regards

Jay&Dee

The hospital would have a social worker who may be able to help source accommodation close to the hospital.
They have a budget to pay for accommodation to pay for accommodation where people do not have easy access to hospital.
Often the have agreements with accommodation providers for this ...

 Hi rocket smile

This suggestion is the best I think. The social worker is expected to ensure that all discharged patients have suitable accommodation and suitable support to recover OK. You might have skimmed past that step in an emergency, but should ring the hospital about it. Worry is not helping your recovery.  Good luck !

Update.
i left hospital late friday and there was not a problem. This happened saturday. do not think social workers work on the week end. Anyway, strop had the big job of totally packing up and resetting up. We have left and have been welcomed at a caravan park in nanango. Everything is ok and i have not had to have morphine today. Finally, i can focus on my recovery and strop can recover from all the stress too. Thankyou to all who replied. Thankyou for all your love and concern. Rocket n strop

hi Rocket,
I've just plugged into this thread. would like to hear about the ongoing situ with you, including the suggestion re a lawyer. your situ sounded very like some local folk not being appreciative of you in the first instance - sometimes people don't hear or don't care about their fellow Aussies ... a point I have tried to make elsewhere ... crises bring out the worst and the best in folk, uh? anyway, keep us informed and all the best.
