Coronavirus - West Australia will have a very hard border closure as from April 5

Copy and paste from ABC news

Breaking: WA moves to implement "hard border closure"

Premier Mark McGowan has just announced the "drastic steps", and says WA will now be "an island within an island" from midnight on Sunday.
Mr McGowan encouraged all Western Australians to get home before that time, as they will not be permitted to afterwards.

He says the list of exemptions are still being worked through, but for now include:

  • People performing work functions
  • Health services
  • Emergency services
  • Transport, freight and logistics
  • Special skills not available in WA
  • National and state security
  • Court and judiciary servies
  • FIFO workers and their families (though they will need to self-isolate for 14 days)

If I have interpreted the above correctly

At the moment if you cross the WA border, you will have to self/forced (not sure which), isolate for 14 days

After midnight Sunday 5 April, you will not be allowed to cross the border, unless you are exempt, as noted above

I put this out, not to cause controversy, but to let others know, that if you are heading to WA, then you had better hot foot it ASAP

Link below, which is buried within a live update news article

I would not be surprised if other states also follow through, with this idea

If this keeps going Sydney Northern Beaches will raise Spit Bridge, knock down Roseville Bridge & blow up Mona Vale Road. The only 3 access points.

But I not sure if it would be to keep everyone else out or us in!

Our family in W.A. offered us a vacant house to use to see this out. As much as we have enjoyed the last couple of years on the road travelling, this offer was too good to refuse.

We left Goolwa S.A. Last Friday & arrived at our destination near Perth Monday afternoon, the border crossing for us was uneventful, we were ask the details of our residence, some personnel details were recorded & we were told to take the most direct route.

We are now in mandatory self isolation for the required 14 day period & after that we will not be able to travel outside the region we are currently at.

I must mention the moron towing a caravan with a Ram that passed us & disappeared off into the distance before giving us a hard time for being in W.A.
over channel 40, I really hope some day you are in the same position as us.

Our circumstances have worked out well & we are both relieved to be here, but there are many who are struggling to find a place long term.

The W.A. Border closes to all on Sunday, unless you essential workers/services.

WA now has Corona virus cases in Broome, Kununurra and Halls Creek as well as down south. The virus is getting around. Same goes for us here in Qld and everywhere else for that matter. Some people that don't need to travel just won't stay put hence border closures. Cheers and stay safe.

Maybe he could also tell the WA based vehicle " camping" in the local boat carpark its time to go home...
Specially as there are no toilets, showers or washing facilities there at all,

BEFORE this chap gets a rather large fine

'But I'm from WA, can I still travel? In short, no. If your travel is not essential, you'll risk being trapped on the other side.'

https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-03/wa-closes-borders-to-stop-coronavirus-travel-ban-explained/12116140

'A person who may be at the Bungle Bungles will, from midnight tonight, no longer be able to drive across three or four districts in the Kimberley and then arrive in Broome. You must stay in that particular district.'

I hope there is no shortage of water, food & medicine!

 Hi Gaylehere

I read, but did not keep the link

The Kununurra  person, was a member of the border quarantine team
This obviously means that, regardless of where they got the virus from, they have probably passed it on to some of those, crossing the NT/WA border

For those who think that going to the quieter areas, will allow them to keep travelling, and keep safe, I will point out
The NT/WA border is about 500 odd kilometres from Katherine in NT, and about 1,000 kilometres from Broome in WA
Apart from Kununurra, which is close to the border, there are no other large towns, on that highway

I also read that the Halls Creek person, was a Doctor who had recently flown in from interstate, to assist the locals
Halls Creek, for anyone who has never been there, has a population of around 1,500 but about 80% would be Aborigines

The last I read, was that the Greyhound bus, was not allowed to stop in the town, apart from dropping off the mail

Will these restrictions only apply for people entering or will the border be closed in both directions. We have relations from QLD working in the west at the moment.

I do not have the answer, Landy

I am fairly certain that I have read, but as everyone knows, things seem to change by the week, and there is some confusing info out there

The Northern Territory has previously said
If you come into our state, you will be sent to 14 days quarantine, put up at our premises, at your cost

Queensland has previously said, if you come to our state, through our western borders, you will have to self quarantine for 14 days, even if you are not sick

I can only suggest that your rellies, get up to date information, just before they decide to travel
