I have a mate who worked for a radio station in Townsville many years ago.
One April morn, on their news bulletin it was announced that the local council would be bulldozing Castle Hill and using the rocks & soil to build a causeway to Magnetic Island.
A couple of decades ago ABC 702 had a panel of experts discussing Sydney's housing shortage. The solution was to lower Sydney Harbour and build new housing around the newly created foreshore. ABCs phones had a meltdown with all the previous waterfront owners loosing their views!

In the olden days Banks had to add up and balance there ledgers .On 1st April sent the newby up to the post office to get the scales to balance the said ledgers the P.O guy was on to it told him to take a seat he had to the long wait out of his safe. The boss wasn t impressed making the kid sit in the P O for half an hour.
A Sydney radio station (from memory 2SM) announced that a "jumbo' was going to pass under the Sydney Harbour Bridge. They made the announcement leading upto April fools day to get people discussing if legal., possible, best vantage point etc.
On first of April an elephant was barged under the bridge!!

Laurie Henry was a local DJ legend in Albury Wodonga in late 70's early 80's. April 1st fell on a Sunday so he promoted all morning that a Concorde Jet was going to land at Albury Airport at 11 am. The Riverina Hwy that ran beside the airport was full of sight see'rs and road was almost blocked for hours. I had a mate ring me to say come along. I just laughed. Boy was his face red later that arvo.

If you have any DAs (development applications) near you check the shadow diagrams very carefully to make sure that the architect hasn't moved the sun. Happened next to us as the shadows for the proposal were excessive.

So I have been told. All is not lost,however,as a friend phoned me at 10.30am today and advised that Mr Morrison had announced that ALL bottle shops would close indefinitely from 12 noon.Although I suspected foul play,I did not want to take the risk,and be stuck with no beer so I visited the local bottleshop and bought 12 boxes of beer......I know,I know,so please no lectures about "2 boxes per person,per day". From the Townsville Bulletin - "Two NQ Towns to be renamed" -
Two North Qld towns will be renamed to remind people of COVID-19 isolation measures. The Burdekin Shire Council has renamed its two largest towns, Home Hill & Ayr to "Stay at Home (Hill)" & "Breathe Fresh Ayr".
Council staff made the decision, with the community's wellbeing in mind, following several teleconferences & socially distant meetings.
Burdekin Shire CEO, Terry Brennan said while residents were doing their part to slow the spread of COVID-19 and self isolating as much as possible, it was important to keep active and happy.
"I believe Stay AT Home (Hill) and Breathe Fresh Ayr will be incredibly popular destinations for tourists once the travel restrictions are lifted - they seem to be the words on everyone's lips online," Mr Brennan said.
And further down through the article, "Both town names will revert back at midday today, however I want to encourage everyone to stay at home unless accessing essential services and find ways to get fresh air regularly."
