up in the air at the moment i would love to go camping but need to find a spot that is remote and has plenty to do
Isn't that a contradiction in terms?
Perhaps try to find satisfaction in your own company....
One of the beauties of remote camping. Plenty to do may be just simply being busy listening to Dawn Chorus, Even Bird Song, photos, fishing etc. with NO one "fillin yer ear"!

I slowly realise as I get older that I am definitely NOT the fastest rat in the race.
Also the older I get the more I realise I do not know.
We are thinking of heading back up here for a few weeks, just got to pick a spot.Plenty to do,day trips ,fishing ,walks, photography, drinking ,eating ,reading, ect.
Apparently, some country town shops are closing off access to non-residents. Apparently, some city folk are cleaning out supplies from country Supermarkets and stores.

Well! I did hear correct earlier today. I am in Young NSW and heard that on the local radio early this morning Iza and thought I didn't hear properly.
If you don't see me around soon I have faded away to a shadow due to not being a local. My address on my id is 8 hours away from here.
So much for country towns wanting tourists. I think rationing would be much better.
Also and as well even, I went to the 'community' hour on Tuesday (I even got up early) and nothing of use in the supermarket. No meat, no fresh veg, noth'n. Even the chooks must have stopped laying. On the same radio report earlier it was no different this morning during 'community' hour. They did a live cross.
Might just have to travel and hope for the best.
Mmm, is that still on topic brotell

When I travelled north through the more remote areas year before last (Walgett, Augathella, Winton, Longreach Mt Isa etc) the flu was particularly bad. People kept remarking how city folk coming into the area were putting a strain on services and infecting everyone. Imagine what they are going to say this year. Have decided against travelling this year, I have enough land around me with pleasant walking places to safely isolate and the local supermarket has plenty of stock so far. Major hospital where I visit quite often is less than 10mins away.
It's also on the cards that Tassie will close it's border to any/all travellers. Everyone would be far better off staying put or heading to home base until this settles down which will be many months or longer. You may want to travel but shortly that will be decided for you.
Well its on the cards to do a tassiie trip now and delay the the trip to Alice, judt getting to hard cheers blaze
You will be required to quarantine for 14 days if you go to Tasmania, as that was introduced effective tomorrow for all non essential travel to the island.

We intend leaving Adelaide in 2 weeks for extended travels. Intending to go via Mildura, Vic Goldfields, Melb, East Gippsland then up East Coast, probably as far as Mackay, Gemfields then through to NT. Very hard to know how things will be even between now and leaving but ultimately would feel better travelling. A bit unsure about Melb and Cities in general though. Easier to maintain a bit of space away from them I think. Will be keeping an eye on this thread and any similar and keen to hear of people's day to day experiences while travelling atm. Appreciate the tip re gloves when fueling. Mostly enjoy quiet bush camping. Cooking on fire etc. Reading a book. Fishing. Pretty much self isolation.
I reckon this is a massive media beat up, I'd say you have a better chance in winning lotto than catching the corona virus.
A few sobering numbers as it stand as of yesterday about 0.0025% of 25 million Australians have the virus, approximately 0.0005% have been been cured, of that 6 have passed.
We are on our 2nd leg of our run to NQ for the winter, we should arrive at our planned destination late May or early June, mean while the small communities where stop so far are most welcoming and appreciate our visit, like us many fellow travellers and locals all agree we would have a better chance of winning lotto than catching corona virus.

we will all come in contact with the virus eventually how it will affect us will vary from a mild cold to terminal .
hopefully the spread can be controlled at a rate to minimize the terminal cases by having enough facilities available to treat them. if ten cases front up at a hospital that require equipment to get them thru an there is only 5 pieces of equipment who or how is the decision made who gets saved ?
we are thinking of the 5 months trip to WA and back to Melbourne starting 3April. are the caravan parks likely to receive visitors? will there be hundreds of new RV/caravanners on the road? will local doctors care for us if we get crook? will we be able to come back home or will they shut the borders on us? so, what is caravanning going to be like in the next 5 months? please advise o wise ones ...
I would keep an eye on the situation as far as travel goes as both NT and WA have hinted that they may close their borders if the situation worsens.
WA government has already said not to do non essential travel.
We are away down south at present but heading for home early next week and will stay there until things sort themselves out.
Btw,
when I mentioned our plans to travel my cardiologist opined that it was a good idea to get out of the city (Melbourne) and away from the crowds. so, for the moment at least our plans remain active and we'll review in the next two weeks as we come up to departure date. my questions remain for comment ...
hey Greg,
thanks for that. I wonder tho' what advice 'not to travel' means? it seems to be put out there re travel overseas and/or by aircraft. I'd like to see those who decide these things say clearly what road travel by caravan is likely to be banned, and how they would police it, if at all ... at the end of the day we're all Aussies, and we should try to keep our mateship traditions alive and well, which includes not going bazookas about this covid thing, especially since the flu kills a lot more than that will according to the wise ones ...
You should first of all educate yourself, Covid 19 is a contagious virus that humans have no immunity against, the flu is fatal to some, they are generally those that believe they will be okay and don't get a flu shot or have no access. The Flu takes 1 in a 1000, Covid 19 has a much higher potential. There would/will be higher levels as health systems get overwhelmed, just look at Italy, that could happen anywhere if the authorities hesitate in acting.

Still going i hope as we live on the road. Will go west qld and hopefully moss the virus.
There is a chronic shortage of doctors at the best of times. If the doctor hasn't succumbed to Coronavirus as least one can join the lengthening queue.

I think that has all changed now. NT govt will insist you quarantine for 14 days if you travel to the Territory. The SA Govt is asking people to stay home, in their community, dont take risks.
Can we stop this blase attitude caravanners? - this is bloody serious, stay home. Two three four months whatever it takes before they get a vaccine, might be 12 months - who knows.
Metho , 20% water . A few drops of bleach hospital cleaner . Ali Vera . Cleans and dries well . Dont use much bleach anymore on its own . Too tough on carpets etc . Just keeping things clean !
terry, staying home appears to be the worse option from what I have been able to gather - since it means staying in Melbourne, which is now listed as one of the cities to avoid ... also, as I said, my cardiologist upon learning of our travel plans said it was a good idea to get out of the city to less crowded places. I have also read the latest GNT which on balance suggests that caravanning is not a bad idea, but there are many issues to consider ... seems one is best to go forward in life, avoid crowds, practise social distance (a square metre), wash hands frequently, clean commonly touched surfaces (eg door knobs, tables), don't touch your face, and keep abreast of the news (which is ot difficult since COVID is THE TOPIC at the moment).
I believe staying put is the best thing to do, whether your sick or not. If you get sick while away your just using others resources that they can't afford to loose.
