Hi

Just joined the forum we are starting our first major trip  end of march (major for us) to Port Macquarie The first long trip even though we have been caravaners for many years. I have fitted a CB in the car what is the best channel to use most say Channel 18 is that right ??

Welcome to the gang John, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Chanel 40 is the best Chanel as the truckies use that and you can also hear any problems ahead etc. However, when travelling the Pacific Hwy through NSW it is Chanel 29.

9 is a call Chanel for general chit chat. Mostly rubbish on there these days.

Chanel 5 and 35 are the Government designated Emergency Chanel's so keep off those unless you need to call for help.

Chanel 18 is the traveller Chanel but very few actually use it so not worth the effort really.

I actually scan 5, 9, 18, 25, 29, 35 and 40. I mainly talk on 40 to truck drivers so I can get them around me safely etc.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Also a warm welcome from me, Lavington1

Doug (Dougwe) has hit the nail on the head, and I can not add any more

I only have a hand held, so it is inconvenient for me to change channels, while driving

I keep it on channel 40, (I do not travel on the Pacific highway)

I use it to communicate with the truckies, to allow them to pass, as soon as it is safe for them, to do so

I have my name, and channel 40, on the rear of my vehicle
