I tried cheap, forget it!!!!! Got a CGear mat and they are brilliant. Try Campsmart I believe $275 for a 6.00 metre.

I have tried a few cheaper too and now use and will stick with CGear. I am out in the playground full time and sometimes set up in one place for many moons and the CGear matt has never failed me.

Nice and light too which is very important to me.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Carac do a range which is about one third of the price of Cgear and the look and feel of the two products are no different.

My Carac mat has provided good service for over one year and shows no sign of wear or damage and I live in my van so it's had extensive use.

Bunnings shadecloth. We have used a 12 ft x 24 ft green shade cloth mat from Bunnings for over 10 years. Still going strong and keeps the campsite very tidy. Even use it on slabs in Caravan parks. Worth checking not sure of price now

Not sure what it is called, probably ground matting or something similar

It looks like very heavy shade cloth, with a rubbery feel

You buy it off the roll, as long as you want it

It allows the grass to grow through, so does not kill the ground, when you move on

I have had it, about two years now, and am very happy with it

My advice for what it may be worth is to avoid any matting that does not have the eyes in it so it can be pegged down.

We started off with a loose lay down type mat and soon threw it away and bought a mat that Rob can peg down because the first time we took our two grandsons away with us, the older one tripped and fell on the loose edge and when he hit the concrete slab he broke his arm. That put a dampener on that holiday.

Another consideration is that many van parks do not allow matting that is not approved for use on grass as some stop the light and air and kill the grass.

On the recommendation of friends I looked at Bunnings shade cloth before buy the Camac mat but found the shade cloth to be dearer!

BAB makes a good point about the peg down points too.

Ah Ha ...

Camac not Carac! I thought that might be the case but I eventually found the Melb? Carac company who do stock Annex mats, so I thought that it was the one.

I have had the same piece of Bunnings shade cloth for 20+ years but it is showing its age with a few splits at fold points and a raggedy areas where I peg it down with old engine valves. It hasn't helped by using it over the top of the protective silver tarp Van cover when I'm laid up at home (most of the time these days).

I got a couple of those ALDI annex mats but they are heavy rubbish, so they sit in the shed waiting for a second life. I occasionally use one as a floor on my gazebo on my stays at local (Tallebudgera Creek etc) beach side CPs.

I think any replacement that I get would be the Camec one or perhaps a Coast to Coast equivalent (I get trade price there).

Providing the valve stem is long enough they would be perfect for the job.

I use long batten screws with a plastic washer, you dont trip on them and are easy to screw into even the hardest ground using the drill that is used to wind the stabilisers up and down.

No way we would use shadecloth. Tried it once and it is slippery, very dangerous to grey nomads.

Hi, I would take a photo but it would look black.

In our second hand caravan a rubber like mat with holes was found, oh look at that, was is it, some sort of funny cover.

well it is a bUte non slip rubber type mat that we now use in the annex, 2.5x 3 metres, not full annex but works a treat and I do not need a grown grandson to put it away.

I also use a Camac and found they are really good. I secure them with a few tent pegs and usually manage to trip over them on a regular basis.

I was using those lock in metre square foam numbers that I purchased from a camping store. The problem with them is that whenever a bit of a breeze gets up, you spend the next few hours meeting everyone in the park as you go looking for where they might have been blown. I think the best effort was about 150 metres from the van. It looked like it had been savaged by a pack of wild dogs so it joined the other three pieces in the nearest bin.

The mats took off, but as you said, you get to meet your fellow campers. Some not so happy.

I see shade cloth is said to be slippery ? The double layered cloth with larger netting is fine . It allows sand to go through while keeping area clean . There is two different sized . The other mat we use is a thin rubber type . This we use on soil where theres no sand . Its a little like the insulation foam for under drawers etc to prevent movement.
