The Vic Emergency web site is poorly implemented from a number of perspectives and can often be very slow or unusable especially on busy days (today!) or over slow links.
I have discovered it has a text-only interface which is here:
http://emergency.vic.gov.au/public/textonly.html
This page is much faster to load and provides a simple chronological list of the events.
NOTE WELL: This page *does not* automatically refresh and you will need to manually click on the "Reload" button when you require an update.
