Hello Mike,

We have this reflective shade cloth and our opinion is that it is excellent.

We have an ordinary common shade on our fridge wall and we can actually feel the difference in heat when touching the cloth.

The reflective cloth is cooler.
It is not 80% but reflective and at 70% it works fine.

Rob has contacted them and they will make size to order but our awning shade is great. We may get some ends made later on.

Hi Mike,the only way I can think of ,is to have sail track all around the van.

Then you would only need 2 lengths of shade cloth,1 for the length of the van and 1 for the width.

Then just slide them to either side of the van where the sun is shinning.

Hi Mike,

Hi Mike, I use 'Coast to Coast' screens each end and long side. I also have a full length one for fridge side if sun is on that side.

I currently have the three set up around my awning and the one at the front of van opened up on an angle to let air through. It helps heaps.

Not only do they help keep the hot sun at bay they give privacy.

As with Doug, we have the Coast to Coast awning walls. They are certainly a heavy shade material, and if used in the track on the roll out awning (if your van has one), and on the anti flap arms (if you have those), would provide a good level of shade for you. You really only need the side wall and one end wall, and erect the end wall either front or back depending on the positioning of the van to the sun.

If you don't want to buy commercially made units, which can be quite costly compared to ordinary shade cloth, then perhaps you can get 80% shade cloth, and have someone sew some rope on the top to allow fixing in the awning track. The only problem doing that may be getting the correct angle for the end wall, and the installation of some tie down points.

We use 2 different side walls. The Coast to Coast for heavy duty shade, and we have a 70% shade cloth equivalent for those days we want to retain a bit of the view, as the Coast to Coast is very difficult to see through.

I have a six meter long Carefree Roll out awning.It has an extra track/slot.

I measured the diameter of the round slot and bought a pack of Nylon 'Slugs' 8mm dia. Whtakers,Ebay or BLA all sell them.They come in various diameter and have a lug on one side. I also bough a pack of stainless D rings. Slugs are used to attach a Sail to the Mast and being Nylon slide easily in the Awning slot

I went to the local boat upholstery place at the Marina in Hervey Bay. He had a roll of that Material that outdoor seats have on them.. I think the Material was 80% sun shade equivalent.

Guy made me a Six meter x two meter shade cloth with the slugs along the top on Tags and the D rings on tags along the bottom to peg to the ground. Cost was $200 and the D rings and slugs from Ebay. Was around $20. Works well and I also used Bungee cord loops along the bottom to take up winds.

Lots cheaper than a professional one.

I have one of these for either end, they just slide straight into the slot on your anti flap bars.

Mike you can buy small plastic hooks that can be anchored in the sail slot of your awning (available SuperCheap) a pack of these (8) should be sufficient to hook on to a piece of shade cloth cut to suit your requirements.
