Ice Cream Light Bulbs

Or spiral wound type. If anyone still has the original type from around 10-12 years ago, have a good look at them. One failed on us yesterday with an audible " Pop" , heard from 10 meters away. It was very difficult to remove, had almost welded to the bayonet spigots in the light fitting. The other two in the fitting are now in the bin.

They go quite discolored where the tubes attach the base. Mirabella say no danger, but they did not have to remove the broken bits with gloves, which I had to do.

They are called Edison Screw. Go to a lighting place and they may be able to help you.

Make sure the power is off so you don't light up if trying to remove remnants of bayonet or screw bulb!

That's Truly funny, just last week i replaced one of these, only it was a screw type fitting, it felt pretty tight in the fitting also, I truly don't think it lasted any longer then the old style globe but the sales man said it would. i checked two others lights with similar bulbs and they were also very tight.

this time I am trying LED style, sales man said these LEDs out last those ice cream bulbs by long shot. LED is a lot brighter, awesome in fact.

People be careful removing the Edison screw variety.

I have replaced all the globes in our block of units with LED about 3 years ago, one has failed.

Spend a bit extra & get Philips or Osram, they have better CRI (colour render index).

Fittings and globes for some globe types come in several not quite identical sizes. It's possible to install a larger globe into a smaller fitting in some cases. If the fitting is in the cheap side, it's even more common.

Can't edit my last post Contd ES26 and ES27 globes can often be installed in ES27 and ES26 fittings respectively. Both size fittings and both size globes are sold in Australia.

Hi Plain, yes the B22 bayonet style. They and the light fitting are both the standard size. They do almost seize up when they fail. I bought Coles brand LED this time, have a money back guarantee and the light is clean and bright. Only 6 watt rated, so will save a little there as well, dining table area so that is plenty.
