Just on the campfires again,
Here on the east coast of Tas campfires have been banned for the last month or so,
regardless of whether for cooking or for warmth

I do understand you Mike. But there is a lot of bad, really bad people out there that will do your family harm if you approach like that. Nowadays there is no honour, a 4 by 2, women- doesnt matter. I'm saying retaliation no matter how right you are can happen and they might well be arrested and jailed, sore comfort with broken knee caps. My view.

NO WARNING SHOULD BE GIVEN by NP&WS, Police, Firies - hit the perpetrator with a savage fine!

If fishermen break the rules here in Qld, they face a fine, confiscation of their gear, boat & even their car - the same should apply here!

And here in Nth Qld we've had the odd idiot (possibly drunken idiot) who had a bonfire on a beach. Put the fire out? Sure, plenty of sand to smother it - fine until a young child ran over it & suffered severe burns!

I'm sorry but I can't see the necessity to have a fire - most of us have stoves of some sort, inside or out. Some bird, lizard, snake might have been using that old bit of dead wood for a home.

Like others above, I remember that horrible day - Ash Wednesday in 1983. I was at Ceduna & one of my workmates said if a fire was lit outside, it would burn out of control to the eastern SA/NSW/Vic border. It was hot & extremely windy. When I went to close down & hand over the day's issues to our centre at Mt Bonython (Adelaide hills), I was asked to stay on & man the only remaining (Ceduna) Telstra HF base as the Adelaide base was lost in the fire. I was allowed to go home after 8pm.

Mike, you are a good example of how we should ALL handle these issues.

Like he says, he will discretely photograph these people fires & no plate. Then when they leave, he will go check their fire pit He will not say anything to them, just run to the law with his sneaky pics. All of which will just show, that the people were there, that's all. It will not prove they left a fire going, for all anyone knows, it could of been you who relit the fire after they left, just to look important, like, "Smokey The Bear".

I make no apology for attempting to ensure people who set the bush on fire are held responsible for their actions... and nor should you.

MH - Unable to head bush for another few days because of... bushfires....
