Please drive to the conditions !!

Hi smile

I am currently driving the Princes Hy in Vic east up to NSW. A bit of a goat track through the forests.  Yesterday i was driving into a 75 posted corner and coming towards me was a typical twincab ute with a large van on the back, going too fast, obviously having trouble keeping it all on the road. furiousWell up the camber almost against the guard barrier and veering a bit as they struggled to hold it. I was looking for the best way past if it all went really bad. HEY did I mention it was raining and wet. But all went OK and he passed me and seemed to keep from ending up a wreck as he disapeared ! hmm

Gees drive to the conditions !! There were other corners posted only 50 Ks too so there was warning it was a bit variable. It had been raing all day on and off so obviously wet road. No excuse to pushing it really and I would say a lucky escape. That guard rail was allmost already wiped out by past encounters. confuse

Drive safely and SLOW DOWN TO THE CONDITIONS.

Last year in Kakadu we saw quite a few very top heavy cars going way to fast for the camber. We tried to position ourselves in a safer position. I read this year they have a lot of rollovers up there.

Hmm.. No not sure! Yes Princes Hy  no

On another note. We had a whine which was getting louder according to SWMBO and I said it sounds all right to me !!biggrin

However after a while it sounded worse even to me and we stopped and had the RACV come and look at it in Cann River. Raining and getting late. He (and I) found the faulty viscous fan hub and removed it just before Dark. I will drive it home OK in this weather without the fan if I am careful. Thanks for the help Luke the legend from Orbost RACV wink

Nice free camp at Cann River too.aww

Prince's Highway (A1) Vic - NSW:

For a First World country, and given it's a major interstate highway which carries a *lot* of traffic, the condition of that road from around Orbost to Eden (maybe beyond, can't remember) is a disgrace!

Vic, NSW and the federal government need to chip in and do a major upgrade of that section. Don't worry so much about people driving 5km above the speed limit first provide safe roads for them to drive on. Frankly, because of its condition, that road should probably be limited to 80kph.

First time I went on it, slowed down after the first bad corner took me a bit by surprise.

Didn't slow the trucks down, either behind or coming the other way, mad as a cut snake some of them.

Cheers Bob

Fact of life these days that most people drive as if they have 5 minutes left to live.

Jeez I'm glad that I am past that stage and like to stop and smell the roses a bit. Probably won't live any longer because one of the other lunatics will probably end up taking me out if I can't avoid them.

Yeah, slow down and enjoy life. An extra few minutes will not matter in the big picture.

It's the journey not the destination!
