You do need a licence but we introduced the Foundation Licence about 10 years past (no Morse) and if you can operate a computer without getting into a tizz then you can pass the Foundation licence. Most radio clubs run one or two day courses to help.

Thanks Mike. I still have my Radio Licence . Thanks for the info.
You should get back on-air - I have no doubt you would have a lot of fun.
This is my main HF radio - a "software defined radio" which enables one to see 1MHz of spectrum at one time, no more tuning around looking for signals - if there is one on the band I can see it and zoom directly in to it - terrific :)

I'm an Elecrafter - KX3, KXPA100 and PX3. I don't operate when moving because the Disco2 Td5 generates FAR too much noise. I reckon I'd need more ferrite than what the car weighs to supress it to a tolerable level... Antenna is usually a 40 foot / side inverted V doublet with a home brew Z-match.
