It is a remote opal mining town ninety kilometers north of Wilcannia
One of the most friendliest places ever. Glad I was able to get here at this time as in another month the town shuts down for the summer, pub and all, due to the extreme heat.
View to the North
View to the South
A large mural across from pub
Apart from the food shop the only other shop left open was this dugout, built underground to shield from the heat, selling some opal.
White Cliffs Pub. It has 75 Kilowatts of solar on its roofs. That covers about half of its power bill!
OO, a bitumen road is not really the decider on what makes remote or not.
White Cliffs is not exactly an outer suburb of Melbourne. It is in NW NSW.
Easy to get to?? Well, the tip of Cape York is one of the more remote places on planet Earth but you can fly there easily. Doesn't make it any less remote.

Joe.
We obviously have differing definitions of the word remote.
The Simpson Desert is remote.
White Cliffs Caravan Park is less than an hours drive away from the Wilcannia Golf Club's Family Bistro.
It's an interesting location though, we enjoyed our visit.

Oils, my definition of remote is pretty normal as per...
Remote definition and meaning | Collins English Dictionary https://www.collinsdictionary.com dictionary english remote Remote definition: Remote areas are far away from cities and places where most people live , and are...
You of course are permitted to use some other definition of remote that suits your sense of trying to show disrespect to me, but normality dictates that you would not do that.
I object to having my manners being called low key and having my attitude called frantic, by you.
Talking about manners, I pacifically asked you not to post on my threads. Yet you continue to.
Of course you are able to but why would you if you were not wanting to try to belittle just about everything I write.
I guess you are gonna come right back here and do what you do anyway. How sad.

Hi Joe....thanks for the great photos and interesting comments.White Cliffs now has been added to my list of remote places to visit,as it looks very interesting.Keep the photos coming.....Cheers
Hi Farmhat.
Thanks for posting the photos. Its great to see other peoples prospectives on places and experiences.
Remote has nothing to do with the type of road leading to it. I remember reading here a while ago about a person cutting their holiday short and heading home because of flies in a remote area.
Loved your pictures.
Regards Pete
In 2016 we arrived in White Cliffs from Mutawintji NP with plenty on mud in the wheel arches, took half an hour per corner to get it off. Got a well deserved meal in White Cliffs.

Just completed a 4 month, 10000 kilometre trip from Adelaide through western NSW (including White Cliffs), up the Qld coast to Cooktown, across the Savannah Way to Burketown, and back down to Adelaide via Mt Isa, Birdsville Track and the Flinders Ranges. Many places in between in western Qld as well.
I must say that we didnt think White Cliffs is all that remote (outback yes, remote no), especially when you compare to places like Burketown, Bedourie and Birdsville. I really felt remote when we spent the 2 days on the Birdsville Track, and the lack of traffic, stock and flora really puts barrenness and remoteness into perspective.
As for flies, not too bad, although plenty atop Big Red one evening as the sun went down.
Anyway, isnt it good how we are all different, and have different opinions, and are free to express them here.

Chaos, mayhem, confusion. Good my job here is done
I know many places in the Victorian High Country which are only around 30km or 40km from a bitumen road or farmhouse but, by God, you would not want to get into serious trouble in those locations as they are close to impossible for most people to walk out of and the through traffic may only be a few 4WDs per year!
I suppose I'd say "remote" is somewhere without normal communications (HF radio/sat phone only) and without Western style facilities (hospital, shops et al) and difficult to get into/out of. But it is very subjective... a flooding river can quickly make somewhere 2km from a town "remote".
